Fox and Monk have to shoot better than 60% from the line

Monk shoots 83% and Fox shoots 70% on the season.

Not to be too picky, but SKJ only had 2 fouls. Still think he should get more run. I think he has some offensive game that is severely lacking down low when Bam exits.

 

I'm the opposite. In the long run there is probably a future for SKJ but this year isn't it. He had a chance to bring something to the floor last night when the Cats need it and he failed miserably.

Clyde - do you call games as a Official ? you sound like a lot of my friends who do . The golden rule of never ever admit the zebras miss a single call. They were horrific , and no , the call on Bam for the loose ball is rarely called unless the player on bottom has control of the ball. Rarely . And Bam was angled off to the side , not like he just jumped on top of a player who had control of the ball . Also the ref who was staring the play down called jump ball ( correctly) and the guy off to the side over ruled him.

UK got great production from the four spot last night.

I don't have an issue with the NCAA trying to clean up the game and having the officials call games like this. However they have to call EVERY game like this. They can't let teams play in one game then call it tight like this in the next.

I would love to see them go small and completely spread the floor when Bama is out. Have Willis and Gabriel in together. That just opens up the lane even more for Fox and Briscoe. Defensively it would hurt some, but currently I think that would be their best lineup when Bam is out.

My point is that the game was horrific (to use your word) to watch but the question still remains as to why. If your bosses tell you to do the job a certain way (and you're dependent upon them to get future games) you're going to call it how they want it.

 

You disagree with a call. Two things: So what and you've never probably called a game nor know the rulebook. That puts you in an extremely large group.

 

Can you tell me what the directive is to the officials? If not, then you're just guessing.

Cals best defensive teams have always had a rim protector. AD, Towns, etc. I love Bam but he is not really that good of a rim protector yet, and that is part of the problem we have defensively right now.

 

Also I think Bam still has a lot of room to grow in the rebounding department. It's not like he is bad but I feel he could be dominant. He doesn't seem to have the instincts or know how to read a shot on where to position himself as good as people like Julius Randle and Towns was. He keeps getting better, and once he improves in those areas then watch out.

This has been my criticism for years. I realize i'm picking on the gold standard, but it is true. Cal has always stated "I can't hide you here at Kentucky". He also means he is stubborn and won't hide you here at Kentucky. He isn't going to mess around with silly college concepts like having a good change up zone or having trap help for weak defenders or special fronting and ball denial to great opponents, and he hates the do anything but switch all ball screens. Its stubborn and allows him to get out coached occasionally on that end of the floor. Usually when we lose in the tournament this is why.

I very much agree with both of your statements. I personally think we aren't even seeing close to the ceiling that Bam has. He has the potentialy to be very good.

I checked with Mike DeCourcy to confirm officials are calling it tighter at the directive from the NCAA. Players better adjust. Officials are going to do what the person paying them says.
