January 18, 20179 yr Yes. The question is why? Is it because the NCAA is trying to get the game to a point of "freedom of movement?" If so, then the officials called it correctly tonight. If so then the players simply have to adjust. If the answer is "no" then it's on the officials. My guess is they're calling it as instructed by their assignors which are getting instructions from the NCAA. I am okay with that if a ton of those calls were from hand checks on the perimeter. But so many were from bogus moving screens and simple box outs. I usually buy into the "adjust your play based on how its called". Cant jump on that side tonight. It was embarassing.
January 18, 20179 yr Hawkins and Gabriel made big shots when the game was tight. Monk struggled with his shot while turning it over five times while drawing the ire of Cal. The four consecutive turnovers were infuriating and really catapulted Miss State. I loved watching Fox work off the high pick, the defenders were helpless.
January 18, 20179 yr Nice to have Weynen and DWillis scoring. Fortunately Weynen can block shots because I'm not sure he's fully knowledgeable of what he's supposed to be doing defensively. Ex: He was weakside on the low block. His man was not near the basket. Ball screen for the PG at the foul line middle. Picker rolls to the basket. Weynen for some reason chased his man out to the wing leaving the rim unprotected. Wide open uncontested layup. He'll figure it out. He's really coming on.
January 18, 20179 yr As a lot have been commenting on the officiating, I 100 % agree. Those three weren't letting either team play. Should any player get close to an opponent ...that was a foul. I really liked the way that Gabriel played tonight and D. Fox may be one if not the quickest humans that I have ever seen, that guy can go around any opposing player or a number of them at anytime. Fox's two impressive drives for baskets in the final minutes ended Mississippi State hopes. D. Willis scored all 13 of his points in the first half, stepping out to make three 3-pointers. Fox added 10 points and I actually thought that he had more. Monk just did not have a real good night, he wasn't hitting from outside and I think that got in his head and he let it affect his defensive play plus making some bad passes. Kentucky at one time looked like it would cruise to the win after building a 66-49 lead in the second half, and then Mississippi State went on a run. I didn't like the fact that once again, a seemingly lazy Cats defense gave up 13 straight points to make things interesting down the stretch. This one became an emotional / physical game and had four technical fouls -- two on each team. Even at a "hard to watch" game that never got in any flow bc of the zebras, U.K. continued to put up big numbers on offense. They have scored at least 87 points for the sixth straight game. A pretty good and another very physical South Carolina team comes to Rupp this Saturday. Kentucky is 16-2 and unbeaten in SEC.... GO BIG BLUE.
January 18, 20179 yr The foul on Bam was correct when he jumped on top of the guy who was on the Problem with that whole play was Fox was knocked almost off his feet before their was a loose ball. Looked like he was losing control, but he was fouled before the scramble for the loose ball.

January 18, 20179 yr Anyone else notice that Monk's game is very parrallel with how his first shot goes? He missed tonight.
January 18, 20179 yr Hard to watch because of the fouls, but I thought a lot of them were fouls. I thought the Vandy officials were much more inconsistent. Solid game by Gabriel, which was good to see. Fox also made big plays in the last couple of minutes.
January 18, 20179 yr The fouls I saw called on screens and block outs were correct. I would have to go back and really watch again, but no way you can tell me that Bam's second foul was correct.
January 18, 20179 yr I would have to go back and really watch again, but no way you can tell me that Bam's second foul was correct. Was the 2nd when he dove on the player on the floor?
January 18, 20179 yr The one call on the screen that TV Teddy called that Sean Farnham (who I like calling games) didnt' like looked to be correct by rule (assuming there was contact). The rulebook says that if you set a blind screen from behind you have to give the defender a chance to take a step before contact. The screener did not. However, I think there was no contact so.... The blocking out fouls were also correct. You can't displace someone especially when they're in the air. You can't hip check them out of bounds. The foul on Bam was correct when he jumped on top of the guy who was on the floor. Fans don't like these kinds of calls but they are correct. Had ad no problem with the foul call on Bam when he dove on the player. His 2nd foul call was on a simple box out. The guy was behind him and didn't even attempt to jump for the ball.
January 18, 20179 yr Was the 2nd when he dove on the player on the floor? That was his first. Wasnt a huge fan of that one, but I get it. His 2nd was awful. Cant tell ya what time it happened, but shortly after they called Weatherspoon for his 2nd when he hit Hawkins with a late boxout.
