Beechwood will certainly be in the hunt for 2 more titles over the next 2 years in 1A.

 

For comparison in the probable move to 2A at the next reclassification we would have to assume:

 

That there will be six classes

That the number of Boys will be used

That the smallest 32 schools with football will be Class A

 

So using the 2015-16 enrollment numbers here are the number of Boys in Grades 9 and 10 in the following schools:

 

55 and 58 Beechwood (1A)

40 and 40 Hazard (1A)

45 and 35 Russellville (1A)

43 and 45 NCC (2A)

49 and 52 Cov Holy Cross (2A)

75 and 52 Newport (2A)

105 and 70 Lloyd (2A)

55 and 62 Mayfield (2A)

32 and 31 Dayton (1A)

35 and 39 Bellevue (1A)

36 and 36 Ludlow (1A)

 

We can also assume that teams can play up in class allowing another team to move down and take their spot.

The Wood has never left in my opinion, They had a stretch when they could not get passed Mayfield in several Final 4 match ups; however, since Mayfield moved to 2A, The Wood has gone 500 in the title game.......

 

I voted no and I agree with above. By saying a team is back, imo, you're saying they're a lot better than they've been in recent years and while they've been solid the last couple of years and made it further in the playoffs, I don't think they're better than the 2011 team or a couple of others the past 7-8 years. If it's any consolation, Mayfield's likely in the same boat that Beechwood has been in for the past several years, now that they're in 2a with Desales, CAL & OB Catholic. They'll win there fair share and make solid playoff runs, but, I doubt you'll ever see another run like they were on the past few years and I doubt you'll see another run like the Tigers had back in the 90s..

Yeah, if those numbers hold true the next 2 years, it's almost a certainty they'll move up. There are several other current 2a teams across other parts of the state with less numbers than the Tigers have,(Betsy Layne, Trimble Co, Middlesboro, Ft Knox, etc) and I highly doubt too many of those, if any, will opt to play up..

I thought the score was a little lopsided in 1994, but I might be wrong. I tried finding the score but couldn't locate it.

 

Not to turn this into a BW/CCH throwback thread, but Brett Brockhoeft scored a TD in the last minute or two to win by 4, I believe. Galen Healey couldn't punch it in at the end for the Colonels. CCH started 1-4 that year before winning the rest of their games all the way to the state title.

Beechwood has fielded good teams since 08 not great teams except maybe 11. I say BW will win more titles.

I also say BW"s great run in the early 90's wouldn't have been so great if Mayfield and Danville had been in the same class, I know for a fact Mayfield played "up" till 95.

All in all Beechwood has a solid program and has always had one.

With a lot of returning talent and talent in the lower grades I am voting yes.

Now will they go on their 90s run again, no. Unless somehow they find away to stay in 1A again even though they are already the biggest 1A school, I think they will be 2A next time. Hopefully NCC stays 2A and we can see that rivalry again twice a year in regular season and playoffs.

I agree with never left!!!! Top program. Wins in a classy fashion. Loses with the same class. Executes precisely and rarely makes disastrous mistakes. Probably one of the least penalized teams in Ky football (shows discipline and coaching). Cannot think of a game lost where I thought the Tigers didn't lay it all on the field. Have seen so many running clock victories where the Coaching staffs left the opponents pride in tact. Great life lessons taught and learned for decades on Beechwood Road. CAN'T COME BACK, IF YOU NEVER LEFT.

I'd rather say 1A football is back. The chain of "will it be Mayfield or BW" is over. Mayfield moved up and BW is seeing some VERY strong competition from the east as well as teams like russleville in the west. Imo BW never left, others have just caught up. 1A is about to be in a spot for the next couple years where it will be very hard to make those top 10 predictions. Very good teams from all over KY.

It's hard to say what would have happened in the 90s if the "ifs" and "buts" were fulfilled. So you have to go with the facts of what happened. We have to remember BW was pumping out D1 recruits as a 1A school in the 90s including a RB who went on to play for the KC Royals in the MLB, and they were wiping the floor with significantly larger schools who were no joke either. I doubt we will see a run like that ever again by BW. That was one of those freak times where everything seemed to come together at once.

Mayfield always has and always will be a great program but for the Millionth time we will never know if you would have beat us or not. We beat the teams we had to beat end of story. :laugh:
