Honestly not sure. Fleming County High School has been around since at least the 60's. I don't think any of the schools played football before that. They had a 50 year reunion of the first team a few years back.

If there isn't a running clock after halftime, I'll be very surprised. Belfry big.

I think Fleming's best shot to make this interesting is to come out throwing haymakers. They've got a good QB in Crump and some excellent skill kids in Alexander, Glasgcock, Roberts, Humphrey, and Hamm.

 

I don't think they can count on being able to sustain long drives. So, I say go big, go big early, and go big often. Maybe a couple of those bombs will land and at least give Belfry something to think about. Gonna have to roll Crump out a lot so he's not a stationary target for Horton, Bentley and Co.

For those who have seen Fleming play, how good is QB Josh Crump?

 

He is completing a little over 50% of his passes for 221 yards and 2.5 TD per game.

I like most of what I saw

 

6'1, not too big though... looks like 175 or so

 

He's crafty for sure. Always moving... has a good feel for when pressure is coming... maybe too much of a feel as he may scramble 25-30 yards behind the line of scrimmage to free up space. Does a good bjob despite this to get his eyes up the field and find open guys.

 

Belfry is going to have to stay disciplined in the secondary on these scramble drills.

 

Not a huge arm... good accuracy but not a ton of arm strength. You don't see him throwing his man open deep, puts a little too much air at times. Looks real good throwing quick passes into the seams though.

 

Does not lack for confidence. If he sees a man come open he is going to make the throw, whether it is across his body, over top of heavy traffic, or while he is sprinting on a rollout.

 

For a comparison I am struggling for a good one for a QB Belfry has faced recently.

The best comparison I can come up with is the Boggs kid from Pike Central from a few years back. Maybe a little more of a risk taker than Boggs and not as big of a threat to tuck and run. He really wants to throw the ball every play and only tucks when he has to. Boggs default seemed to be to run once his first couple reads were covered.

The QB from Fleming is impressive and I agree with him being a risk taker.

 

He threw multiple interceptions in a loss to East Carter 2 weeks ago.

 

I have a couple rules in life and one of them is "Never pick a team that lost to East Carter to beat Belfry." Of course this only applies to football.

Fleming struggled with a poor Lawrence County team. They have a very good QB but not another single player on their team could step on the field for Belfry.

This game will be ugly fast.

 

I hope both remain injury free.

 

So with 22 players on offense and defense plus special teams you think that Fleming would not have another kid besides their QB even take the field if he played for Belfry? Come on now, that may be stretching it a bit. I know Belfry is great, believe me I know that. But Fleming county does have a few good athletes that I believe could and would contribute for Belfry. Morgan county was terrible this year, and I'm pretty sure that two of their kids could play for even Belfry on either side of the ball. I know Fleming has better players than Morgan did this year so I am doubting that statement you made. Sorry just what I think. BTW, I think Belfry wins class 3A and rolls through everyone. They are loaded.

Other thoughts:

- The HB #22 is a solid athlete. Taller back, good size, good speed. Runs very vertical though. Plays physical and doesnt shy from contact.

 

- WR #42 is the Alexander kid. Very good HS receiver. Really tall at 6'4 or 6'5. Doubles as a LB on Defense. Not a speed burner by any stretch of the imagination but a good possession guy with good hands. You can tell he is the QB's favorite target and they like throwing 1 on 1 jump balls. On Defense he uses his length to his advantage to get involved with plays and at the very least slow the back down so others can finish the tackle. Has an unorthodox stance on Defense.

 

- Really not a true #2 guy... they have about three other receivers he distributes the ball to equally.

 

#15 is slight of frame, they use him in the slot a lot. Good quickness. They may try some looks in the run game with him in motion as well.

 

#11 is a big play threat. Good but not great speed. Not the biggest kid, average size. They will use him in the slot some or line him up outside as well.

 

#14 was a good looking receiver earlier in the season with lots of capability of turning a short pass into a long one. Doesnt look like he has been playing the last half of the season though. Not sure if he is hurt or what.

 

#41 is their TE. Good size, 6'2 200 or so. Plays DL as well. Not really a high end athlete that can beat you for a 40 yard gain, but you have to respect him because they will specifically dial his number on offense, particularly in the redzone. Looks better on Defense, pursues well and plays aggressive.

 

- O and D Lines. Fleming is not a small team, but also not a team with elite size. Offensive Line does a fair enough job. Suspect to blitzes or stunts, not really the best moving line. Does a better job than I expected at run blocking though. Defensive Line will have issues with Belfry's Offensive Line.
