How far inland will the winds be high? Thanks If you are camping in the Disney/Kissimmee/Celebration area, you are a good 60-65 miles from the east coast. If the storm skirts the coast, pack the camper up tight Thursday and you should be good. If it looks like it is going to make land fall, come to my house and park the camper in my driveway. Seriously, I'll pm you my address.
October 4, 20169 yr Author Haven't really had a chance to go over it thoroughly but the other models aren't showing a landfall around Orlando yet. Still taking aim on South Carolina.

October 4, 20169 yr Author Tuesday evening update: Both the GFS and NAM models are keeping Matthew just off the coast of Florida. The GFS has it very close to the Florida coast but not coming on shore. The one change is that Matthew will partly come ashore in South Carolina then turn northeasterly and come off shore. For now it looks like South Carolina may get the brunt of the storm. Word of caution. This could change as we get closer to the time period and the models should start getting a better read on Matthew.

How far inland will the winds be high? Thanks Florida could see sustained winds around 30-40 mph inland during the day on Friday. They should die down on Saturday as Matthew pulls away from Florida.

October 5, 20169 yr My sisters and their families are making preparations in the southern outer banks ( Atlantic Beach area )...one of the few stretches of coast in the carolinas that face south. Coastal flooding/storm surge will be a huge concern! Hoping Mathew downgrades to a Cat1 or tropical depression by the time it gets to the Carolinas...

October 5, 20169 yr Author Here are the very latest GFS model runs. It is showing Matthew partially coming ashore around the Palm Bay, New Smyrna beach area. Then traveling up the coast of Florida to about the Florida/Georgia border during the day on Friday. It then it starts to move off shore. For now it is predicted to make an easterly turn and stay off shore of South Carolina. One word of caution. Just a little shift to the west we could have landfall of a major hurricane. Also we are still a couple of days away and things could change. 2 am EDT Friday 8 am EDT 2 pm EDT 8 pm EDT
October 5, 20169 yr Author Matthew is predicted to regain strength and become a Cat 4 hurricane by the time it reaches the coast of Florida.
