I agree it was just some tongue-n-cheek over the HHS-CCH rivalry that everyone loses each others minds over. Both teams battled hard last night.

Do either of these teams platoon at the freshman level?

 

HHS has 4 boys that are first team O and first team D. Schwalbach and MCGuire (both injured) would make that number 6.

 

Five other boys play a lot of snaps on both side of the ball, as one way starter and rotate in at their alternate position.

 

About 22-24 boys rotate in during a game for the Birds.

To answer your question, I thought I saw on this tread where CCH only has 22 kids. I don't think they are "only" playing to win. I think they don't have enough bodies to do that.

I'm not faulting them for not being able to do it. I'm just saying that when one team plays more players than the other (especially at the freshman level), that can have an effect on the game. Knowing that to be the case now, I'm saying that HHS will be just fine and it confirms what most are thinking that there is plenty of talent on the way!

 

Not saying either team is wrong or right for doing what they do. Cov Cath develops players. But if you have more studs going both ways at the freshman level, it definitely has an effect and the fact that it was this close tells me HHS is fine...as I thought they were.

However I feel like many of the Highlands faithful is very misguided in not realizing that some of these other top programs in NKY have a lot of young talent also coming up. Or as you all like to say these other top programs also have more calvary coming too.

 

Highlands always will be a top 5 team in nky. But I feel you all are very misguided in believing it will be back in the next few years where your one of the top 3 teams in the whole state and NKY teams can't even stay close. In the up coming years Highlands may not be getting running clocks put on them, but they also still may not be for sure wins against NKY teams like in the past. Your alls whole the calvary is coming makes it sound like you all believe the days of dominance in this area will be back. Which is why you have so many people argue against it, because you all fail to acknowledge the young talent also coming up too for the teams who are currently beating you all now.

 

In the up coming years there should be some fun exciting battles in NKY for the top team in the area. It should be a fun time to be a fan of NKY football these next few years because there will be parity imo for that top spot.

Freshman results do mean very little though in terms of future varsity success.

Agreed, just sometimes some of you all have made it seem like you all believe it will be back to complete dominance with this group coming up, and that is what I believe people disagree with. Highlands no doubt will be back to competiting for the top spot in NKY, and obviously state titles. I think there will be fun battles for the top NKY spot for the next few years between a few schools.

Can you imagine if CCH loses to Highlands this year on the varsity level!

FWIW, it was not a Highlands Fan that started that thread. Not saying you said it was, but I thought it was important to mention that it was not a Highlands fan that started saying that.

This was a game of turnovers. Cov Cath turned it over 4 times first half and was down at that point. Highlands handed it over several times via fumbles and interceptions in the 2nd half. Teams can't give opponents multiple possessions especially in short field situations and expect things to turn out well. It will be a painful experience for them, but these kids will learn from it.
