This sounds like a pretty small lineup. Do they have any size in reserve?

 

 

If they have any size it would have to have been from last years freshman team. Didn't get a chance to see frosh team last year but I think I was told freshmen team was sub-.500 last year. Don't know how much varsity help is going to come from that group.

I'm another who's not pretending to have a crystal ball, but I'd guess Brossart's lineup will be mostly set as follows:

 

Troy Cooper--5

Nathan Mutsch--4

Jim Uebel--2 or 3

Josh Kidney--1 or 2

????

 

I'd guess the five other seniors are in the mix for the fifth spot, who all bring something different to the table. Kyle Kramer probably saw the most varsity time last year, is a great defender who probably fits best as a 2 or 3. Matt Lloyd is a natural PG, and another great defender and steady ball handler. Luke Rebholtz is similar in size to Kramer, but more of a scorer from the 2-3 spot. Matthew Hansman has good size and is a good inside scorer. Bryan Niemeyer, possibly the most versatile of the bunch, has some size as well as outside scoring ability.

 

Unless sombody really steps up in the preseason, I wouldn't be at all surprized to see some situational starters depending on the opponent, and whether or not they need size, defense, scoring, speed, etc. Should make for a pretty versatile and deep team!!

 

I think Kyle Kramer will see the most time and most starts from this group. KK brings some toughness to the floor can knock down the open shot.

5th spot? Could go to a 2 guard, or could move Robell to 2 guard and then move someone to forward position..Names to watch for are Robert Hatton, Tatum Lewis, Evan Bennett, and Dougie Mason. Right now I would say Dougie Mason.

 

GRC will have a very strong bench.

I really like Browning's game, he reminds me a lot of Litszinger. I see Stahl as more of a role player IMO.

 

Browning brings more offense to the table, Stahl is more in the mold of Pawsat in that he will do the dirty work down low and defend. May depend on the opponent/situation as to who will start or see more playing time.

 

Interesting to read the observations re. Brossart. I like their team a lot, Cooper (like lots of big strong post players - Pat Elliott and Walt Allen come to mind) always gives the Royals fits. I like what I've seen of Uebel (sp?) also. They could be right there in March.

I talked to a parent a couple of weeks ago and they told me that they will have a deep sophmore class, and that 3 of them can come off the bench and contribute right away because they have a week Junior class....As far as size one of the Sophmores is 6"2 and strong as an ox but other than that they are all Guard/Forwards that are about 5"10 to 6"1.....They have a Freshman center that is 6"2 and Growing

They do not have a deep Sophmore class. They have 1 or 2 that might be able to help, but that is about it.

Hope for the coaches sake that these sophs are ready to compete at the varsity level. Just seems to be a big leap in faith that a sub-.500 frosh team could be considered deep in varsity contributors as sophs.

 

With the limited size do you think that the freshman center you mentioned will have an opportunity to play some varsity minutes? Anybody else on the frosh level that might surprise people?

Cahill is not playing basketball.

 

Roll will not play point guard, he is all shooting guard (except for his lack of height).

 

Brown should surprise many people, cshs has been singing his praises for years now.

 

Lampl is a project.

 

Grimes is a monster for his size, offensively and on the glass. Could use a little interior defensive work.

 

Schmerge is probably the best shooter in the team, top 3 in region (although I concede that he has not proved himself in a varsity game, though he hasn't been given the chance). Being 6"4 and not fazed by a hand in his face surely helps.

 

Bondick is very versatile, can play at either guard.

 

A-noll, brother of Danny, is solid but struggles to stay out of foul trouble.

 

Maile is a huge talent, but didn't play basketball at all this summer.

 

Mitch Shover is a point guard but probably isn't ready for varsity right now.

 

We all know about the other 3, hopefully.

The above being said, my predicted starting lineup-

 

First game (before Brown and Bovard)

G- Bondick

G- Jacobs

G- Rolle

F- Grimes

F- Schult

 

By the time the football kids are back in shape for basketball

G- Bovard

KK is most definitly a great defensive player, he needs more confidence to take those open shots. Look for Brian niemeyer to make a big impact for the Mustangs this year. Brain is tall, 6'5' to fill out with Cooper6'6 and Mutsch6'6. Brian just needs some weight behind him, but is quite the athlete, look for some good things from this senoir this year.

I like the starting line-up for Pendleton. Their Post will be tough to guard with Belcher and Crozier. Desai can play some post as well, as can Mark Hicky. Doug Lambert had a good summer. He will also be a pretty good guard with Jermey Mudd leading the way. Pendleton's bench has strong shooters as too post players. I don't think that Desai and Lambert will start because I didn't see them play alot in the summer.

Maile is a heck of a player. I've seen him many times and he is very impressive. If he does not play ALOT I will be shocked cause he can play some ball.

Very talented, but he has been the superstar his whole life. The question is whether or not he can adjust to having a player like Jacobs on the floor with him.

A good suprise for mason county fans and i am suprised no one from maysville has brought this up is that Richie Cox is a pretty good basketball player in a couple pick up games at the YMCA he was shooting and driving to the whole well. This just wasnt against the cheering section guys who still dream of the chance to play either. Looks pretty good for the Royals with Miller, Scott, Browning, Middleton, Stahl, and Pawsat all returning. Mason also has good bench play including, Setty, King, Downing, Thompson. Its gonna be a great year in titletown baby!
