Projected Lineups For 9th and 10th

Featured Replies

BTW, those of you who were wondering, Greg Rice is officially back at Holmes and will be with the team this year. Does this put Holmes back to the favorite in the 9th with or without Edmondson?

Arguably most talented and by the far the most experienced. Depth and team chemistry are the question marks, with the latter being a big one.

Nate is not definitely out at Gallatin. He got a favorable ruling recently from a hearing officer and it will now go to the BOC.

I don't remember any FB players on the 79 team argueably Shields' best HHS team. I agree that a FB player or two is good for the bball program, but half or more playing fball hinders the program as evidenced by the decline in HHS basketball. The Lorenzens and Smiths come along once in a "blue moon". Willie needs to distance himself from the football players and work on bball only kids, that is the only way he can get the program back on its feet.IMO

You have no idea what you are talking about. Couldn't be more wrong about this if you tried to be.

? ? Feel free to tell me what I am so wrong about.

I agree Crunch...there are enough kids at the school that they can focus on the BB only kids and if the Football kids can help out then that is just an added bonus. .

HHS recent history does not back up your point that HHS can win without football players.

Didnt say anywhere in there that they can win without football players. Only meant they have enough kids that they could focus on those and not cut kids for footballers. This doesnt mean I want footballers cut because they can definitely help but by the time they get into basketball shape its typically late January.

Leave out Lorenzen and Smith(not going to happen again) And tell me how successful HHS has been and name the football players that lead those teams. Keep in mind I am from the Ken Shields era on which teams had a mere smattering of football players and were lead mainly by pure bball players. I don,t think just wins and losses quantifies success in high school ball. Competing for a regional championship should be HHS goal every year.

For some reason, and you guys might know better than me, HHS has not produced quality b-ball teams recently (with a few exceptions). It seems like every year, there are at least one or two gridiron-ers on the b-ball team that contribute a lot.

Lets turn it around. Why are there not more non-football players coming out?

Unlike football, there is no structure in the grade schools for basketball. While the football staff and program do a wonderful job with the jr football league, basketball on the other hand has no such program in place. There may be other factors, but I believe if the bball staff would become involved with the grade schools, you may have more non-football bball players.

Crunch... they definitely need to get a feeder system going whether it be recreational or school league where other grade schools are invited to play. As you know, there are so many multi sport athletes in grade school its hard to tell who should stick with what sport. Typically as they get to 6th or 7th grade is when they need to start deciding what they want to do specifically. This is where the Birds need to start differentiating the Footballers and true Basketballers. This is where the programs need to start building and the problem today is these grade levels are so intent on W's and L's that they typically keep 15 kids on each roster, many of them consisting of footballers because they are more physical and usually more developed and it gives the coaches a greater chance to win.

As DMZ mentioned earlier... there are a handful of Sophs who are not footballers and I would assume that it is an every other year thing where you might have 5 or 6 kids who are strictly basketball but every year to get 5 or 6 may be tough. I know I am rambling but the point is... grade school teams in FT. Thomas can find enough leagues to play in or find select AAU teams to play on, its the kids who are not being addressed at this early age because little johnny wasnt asked to play for the team or didnt have a Dad who put him in a better situation. The YMCA rec league is a start but they need something better.

Couldn't have said any better myself. IMO they have the most talent in nky, hands down. If they can put it all together, they can be scary good and walk through NKY. Like you said though, team chemistry will be huge. If they can keep their cool and work together as a team, I don't see any team in nky beating them this year.

I continue to hear the complaints of the coaches at Highlands not getting involved with the kids at a younger age. I ask, where are the parents that would be willing to volunteer to help get this program off the ground. I have spoken with both the girls and boys coach and they are willing to lend a hand, but they cannot be involved with running a youth league and coaching their respective teams. If those of you that have raised this issue have any ideas, PM me and we can have some discussions. I think that this thing is a little closer to reality than some may think, however there are more hands that are needed to make this thing work.

CovCath definately has enough talent to beat Holmes, can't say they will, but they have enough talent.

There's no way this Holmes team walks through Northern Ky., they won't even go unbeaten in NKY.

For starters, let's state the obvious; all the best athletes in the school play football and that trend isn't going away in the near future.
