WHo do you think in nky will beat them? Just wondering

 

Whoever gets to play them the night that 1 or 2 of their key players are suspended. JK. It's a long season and there are some good teams besides Holmes. Holmes should win every game they play against nky teams, but it wouldn't surprise me if for whatever reason they don't.

For starters, let's state the obvious; all the best athletes in the school play football and that trend isn't going away in the near future.

Coach Bill Hermann was the football coach. I think it was the magnitism of Ken Shields and his stellar staff that attracted players to concentrate on bball.

Fischer, Dees, Redmond, Connelly, Vogel, Ling: Class of 80

Hood, Rogg, Braun, Weidemann, Class of 81

Iam probably overlooking some, and yes there may have been a football player or 2 on these squads.

Couldn't have said any better myself. IMO they have the most talent in nky, hands down. If they can put it all together, they can be scary good and walk through NKY. Like you said though, team chemistry will be huge. If they can keep their cool and work together as a team, I don't see any team in nky beating them this year.

 

I also agree. Holmes is the most athletic team hands down, with or without Nate Edmonson. I also did not remember that BJ Avery was a senior last year, is he related to Braeon?

 

Between CCH and Holmes:

 

Best PG: Holmes

Most Athletic: Holmes

Best amount of shooting ability: CovCath

Most depth: You could argue Holmes or CovCath on that one. I think that Holmes has probably 1 or 2 more talented bench players, but CCH can probably go about 7 or so without losing much talent and can even bring a few more in after that if needed.

 

Top 2 teams in the region reside again from the same district, and if Jimmy Ryan decides to take off, we'll see Holy Cross in the mix.

 

Team chemistry could be Holmes' downfall again this season. I look for the battles in the 35th between CCH and Holmes to continue to be classics.

Too hard to go undefeated in N Ky especially in that district. Holmes will be very tough if they can stay focused.

BTW, those of you who were wondering, Greg Rice is officially back at Holmes and will be with the team this year. Does this put Holmes back to the favorite in the 9th with or without Edmondson?

 

That's huge for Holmes. They will need his size but I guess the question is " how long before he's not"?

Will and can are two totally different words. I have no crystal ball, so I don't know who will beat them, but there's several NKY teams that can. The teams with the best shot in no particular order include CovCath, Simon Kenton, Holy Cross, and Brossart (if they play). After that, I think there's another handful of squads with a chance, albiet a lesser chance.

 

That being said, Holmes won't run the table in NKY this year.

I've read post 112, and will post a response shortly. But, if you agree with me that all the best athletes are playing football, what's your arguement here?

 

You'd rather have a team without the best athletes? Do you want a quota on football players, one per class, three per team, how's that fair?

Leave out Lorenzen and Smith(not going to happen again) And tell me how successful HHS has been and name the football players that lead those teams. Keep in mind I am from the Ken Shields era on which teams had a mere smattering of football players and were lead mainly by pure bball players. I don,t think just wins and losses quantifies success in high school ball. Competing for a regional championship should be HHS goal every year.

 

Why did you immediately want take out the most successful era in HHS basketball history? Kind of makes me think your arguement is already broken and you know it.

 

I could go more in depth, but that tends to get ignored sometimes. Since you think competing for the regional championship should be the goal at HHS, name for me the last time they weren't in that tournament. It's been a while.

Just curious, how many of these guys played football say as freshman and then gave it up completely to concentrate on basketball?

I thought this thread was about projected lineups for the 9th and 10th regions team, not a history lesson about Highlands.
