September 24, 20169 yr If I get the paddle out or a good strong switch and use it on the behind, I'm going to prison. That's what's missing in raising kids. My teachers would just now be getting out on probation for some of the beat downs they laid on me and my classmates if they taught under today's rules Funny story. I remember when I thought I was a tough 3rd grader and acting out in class one day. The teacher, who I ended up having for 2nd, 3rd and 5th grade(best teacher ever), pulled me out in the hallway because of my attitude. She laid into me in a verbal tirade and then ended it by saying "and if you say another word I will smack the fire right out of you". My response was "if you even lay a hand on me, my dad will be up here so fast that....." WHAPPPP smacked in the face. I froze while holding my left cheek and she says, "Your dad told me to do that". Clearly I gained a lot of respect for that woman that day but sometimes that's what it takes.

How can the lack of respect for police be changed if the only thing we ever see and hear is bad about cops? Critics are saying "she's only 15" "She's 100 pounds" etc. The issue to me is the longer you let her control the situation the more people you have walking up to join in. That's good. Get in the car and get out. Deal with her at the station.
September 24, 20169 yr This girl was in the wrong and I have no issue with how the officer handled it. Just an observation---I think the girl is emotionally/mentally disturbed from her overall reaction to the officers. I have seen kids with mental issues react that way. I've seen shoplifters act the exact same way. They weren't mentally disturbed, just could not comprehend that their behavior was unacceptable.

That's good. Get in the car and get out. Deal with her at the station. I agree totally. My thoughts after first pass of your link are how do we get that girl to respect the rules of the law. This unfortunately will become the norm for police. It will ratchet up the intensity on even the easiest of calls.

September 24, 20169 yr Yea I had a guy, maybe 18-21 years old the other day. I got out and said "how's it going?" And I was told "I didn't speak to you so don't 'flipping' speak to me". But he didn't say "flipping". I disagree with what is in bold. I deal with kids all the time that react this way, and worse, toward authority figures. And my guess is the concussion story is a post incident made up excuse. Police are in a darned if you do and darned if you don't situation these days. In this case the video is from the police but in other incidents it seems everyone has video phones ready to tape anything and everything. I think a lot of the problems we're seeing are intentional provocations and resistance in order to promote an anti - police bias. And with the aid of the media it's working.

I do have experience with a kid who is mentally "fragile". Watching the video was disturbing for me because said kid would probably react the same way out of confusion and fear.

The sad truth is the younger generation today is the most disrespectful I have ever seen. I commend teachers. I would be in jail for popping one of these punks in the mouth.

I have been on the substitute teacher list since I retired from teaching in 2005 but this year I decided to retire from that as well, mainly due to the same feelings mentioned in your comment. I'm too old to deal with it nowadays, lol.

September 25, 20169 yr The girl was a punk and she got what was coming to her. If my kid spoke to a police officer like that, I would pepper spray her myself.
