What I saw of Mahan last week, he seems pretty composed. If his receivers make the catches they should, he'll be fine. After 2 games, I feel like the challenge for Ashland will be defensively more than offensively, JMO!

There are many that have questioned his decision making on the field. Why do you think Coach Hart started off the season with his best WR playing QB? I'm not saying he can't have a good game this week. In fact I think having Mahan at QB gives Ashland the best chance to be successful. I'm saying Ashland needs him to play smart to have a chance to win.

I agree, it will probably come down to play on the line. Most games usually do. This game as in all in our area this week will more than likely be in wet conditions. One advantage that a passing attack has in these conditions is that the recievers know where and when they are going to make their cuts and the defense has to react.

The disadvantages of a passing attack in wet conditions are trying to throw and catch a slippery ball. I think the advantage goes to the running team if it continues to rain. The RBs know when they are going to make their cuts, it is up to the defense to react.

And last week and the week before, the former QB/currentWR has had a case of the "dropsies". He fumbled in space as QB and everyone saw the drops last week. Do I think he will do that often, no! But I agree with your assertion (and the banner hanging in the student section in week one ) that Mahan gives them the best chance to win this Friday and every Friday IMO. That is why I believe that the defense will have to answer the bell against a serious ground game that you know that Russell will bring. That's my take FWIW!

Well said. But if Ashland can pull off a win against a good Belfry team with their "big playmaker" in Drew McDavid making mistakes, Im impressed. Good luck to both teams tomorrow night.

Everyone has their own opinions. It seems we agree upon most of these issues however.

I don't think the weather will be the deciding factor either. It is still going to come down to which team controls the line of scrimmage and minimizes mistakes.

Everyone has their own opinions. It seems we agree upon most of these issues however.

I also agree with Yoter, I really don't want to get soggy either. But we will be there all the same. Assuming Hoods Creek stays within her banks!

I have a feeling that Russell Line backers will spend a lot of time in Ashlands backfield. A lot of QB sacks. I would be surprised if Ashland can score two times against Russell. Once again I have not called an Ashland game correct this season. The best team will win. No cry babys. No what ifs. The refs were bad. If he would have seen that. All excuses. I truely believe the best team will win.

I like your attitude Jeepman – no excuses. And you won’t hear any from me if Ashland looses.

 

However, I don’t think the best team wins – rather the team that plays the best on a given night wins.
