TCB!

Mayfield's 56-0 win over Ft Campbell last night was his 200TH and it comes 1 game into his 17th season as the Cards skipper. That works out to over 12 wins a season. His dad, Jack Morris, who also coached at Mayfield won 254 games at Mayfield. Between the pair they have won 10 state titles @ Mayfield.

NOTEABLE NUMBERS for JOE MORRIS

1999-2008

101-37, 1 State Title

2009-2016

99-7, 5 State Titles

Congratulations to a Great Coach!

Question for Mayfield Fans: If you had to guess, and Coach Morris was forced to step down after this season for unknown reasons, who would you say would be in the lead to replace him? Current assistants, former players/now head coaches elsewhere?

Morris is 51

If Mayfield had to hire a new coach today it would most likely be DC Cliff Dew who came to Mayfield from Pontotoc, MS where he was head coach. Since Coach Dew arrived in 2009 Mayfield has been to the state title game every single season and Dew is a huge reason for that success. Our line coach is also a former 20+ year head coach from Martin Westview in TN. We have a Southern flavor to our staff which I think helps and possibly more years of head coaching than just about any school in the state which certainly helps. Our OC would also be a strong candidate for the head coaching job but he is a assistant principal so I am not sure that he would be able to be a candidate

Morris, who I have criticized at times, like the 6-5 campaign in 2008, has proven to be resilient just like his dad was but a program that is in the top 5 in all time wins nationally like Mayfield has always attracted some of the best coaches and is likely to do so in the future after this great coach decides to enjoy his retirement. Given Morris young age, he could be the Cardinals coach for a great many years to come
