High School Boys Basketball

Recommended Posts

hi everyone. I have a wonderful idea. I'm sending this out to see what you think. How about a giant boys basketball tourney for 40 boys basketball programs from both states. It would be held in Seymour, Indiana. The Scott Gym holds over 8,000 plus and the history there is great. Yes, 40 programs. The more high school basketball games the better rigth? 20 from Indiana/20 from Kentucky. Have it on a Thurs/Friday/ all day Saturday. Hotels everywhere along I65 South. It would be called: the Best Basketball in the Country. What do you think? then the next year, have it in Kentucky. It could work it would take 2-3 years of planning to do. What do you think? Kentucky fans pick your top 20 programs from the last 3-4 years. Which programs travel better? Which programs would be worth watching? What players could make it a giant classic. From Western Kentucky to Eastern Kentuky to the central part. Owensboro to Ashland to Corbin to Kenton County to Grayson County to Lincoln County. What do you think? It could be very interesting to see a tourney of this size work. Let me know. Thanks have a great day everyone. Roy Goodman:wave::sneaky:;)

I think it would work as a Friday night/all-day Saturday/early Sunday event. Five games Friday, 10 on Saturday and five more on Sunday. You'd have to have a mix of small and large schools from each state as well, with matchups somewhat enrollment-based and start times geared to make it as comfortable as possible for long-distance travelers if you truly want to make this an event that pulls teams from all corners of both states.

Something like this?

Thursday, January 8, 2015

The 2nd annual Indiana – Kentucky Challenge Cup will be played this Saturday, January 10 at the New Castle Fieldhouse in New Castle, Indiana. Pairing one Indiana high school team against one Kentucky high school team, the event takes shape in a best-of-five game format to determine which state is the winner of the 2015 Challenge Cup.

This is the first time the event is being played on Hoosier soil, with proceeds going to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame and the Wounded Warrior Program. Last year at Louisville’s Freedom Hall, Kentucky teams won four of the five games to claim the Challenge Cup trophy.

Admission is $10.00 per person for the entire day of games. Military service veterans and their immediate families will be admitted at no charge. Tickets will be available on game day at the New Castle Fieldhouse. The event is being coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches.

The schedule for the day is:

Girls: Homestead vs. Elizabethtown, 11 a.m.

Boys: South Knox vs. Newport Central Catholic, about 1 p.m.

Boys: Scecina vs. Pulaski Southwestern, about 3 p.m.

Boys: Hamilton Heights vs. Wayne County, about 5 p.m.

Boys: Zionsville vs. Scott County, about 7 p.m.

I don't know if you could pull off 10 games in a day in one location. It'd take about 15 hours without any delays.

It's doable, but yeah, you'd have to start games at 8:30am or even 8, and still be tipping the last game off at 10pm or later.

Ideal scenario would be 6 games Friday, 8 on Saturday and 6 on Sunday. Any way you slice it it's tough logistically. Some games will inevitably be played in front of mostly empty gyms. If there was a way you could stack games with the use of a secondary gym the way LexCath is able to with their tournament, it would work and still be somewhat fan- and team-friendly as far as start times go.

Im looking into that. I think Evansville's schools have in St. Louis. Not sure though. I know there is a 300 mile rule for Indiana schools I think. I know in football Indy area football programs goto Cincinnati to play there. Warren Central and Ind Cathedral both have for several years. I know the baseball programs goto Tennessee for some kind baseball tourneys in the summer.
