July 20, 201610 yr Still remember it vividly. Just saw something that while they were dressing for their moon walk one of them broke the switch off for one of the engines. Buzz Aldrin finally figured out that a felt tipped marker he had would fit in so they could fire the engine up.

July 20, 201610 yr Remember this very well. Walter Cronkite got a little emotional as he was viewing what we were watching as well And as a kid I was sooo into the space program watching the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions. Always drank my Tang and ate my space food sticks.

I remember going outside and looking at the moon while they were still on their journey to get there and thinking of the historic magnitude of the moment, and hoping that everything went okay. I was concerned about the blastoff from the moon more than the landing. If those engines had failed Armstrong and Aldrin would have been stuck on the moon with no way to rescue them.
July 20, 201610 yr The more I watch stuff on the space race and the moon landings, the more I am starting to become convinced we actually didn't walk on the moon, and I'm not usually one of the tin foil hat wearing "conspiracy guys" either. The logistics of what it would take to cover it up is what is keeping me from going all the way over to the conspiracy side...though I do believe not as many people would have to be involved as some think it would take.
July 20, 201610 yr If you have several hours to kill and are as fascinated by the Apollo program as I am, check out the old HBO miniseries "From the Earth to the Moon." I can't recommend it enough. That's a good one. Let me also recommend, "When We Left Earth." It's the best documentary I've ever seen. It chronicles the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo missions, in addition to the Space Shuttle and the Hubble Space Telescope. I show it to my Astronomy students and they absolutely love it.

July 21, 201610 yr I'm still in awe of the accomplishment. We were visiting relatives in southern Florida and glued to the television set.
July 21, 201610 yr Dad allowed me and my sister to come in from tending the pickle base to watch the landing and then let us stay up late to watch Armstrong step on the moon. On our old b&w TV, I really had no idea what I was watching. With all the shadows and our fuzzy reception, it was hard to see.
