I miss my------

Featured Replies

It's that time of year for great summer memories.

Also a time to reminisce on who is not at our family gatherings.

I miss my mom. Can't even write this without tears.

I also miss my dad. Very excited for the chance to see him next week!

I miss my dad and grandparents...a couple of family cookouts this weekend that won't be the same without them.

My wife's mom and little brother are the hardest for her at times like this. I think sometimes she gets upset with herself if she enjoys family reunions or cookouts too much since they aren't here.

My wife does the same kind of thing. Her parents, an older brother and younger sister are gone but she has 3 brothers and a sister still living. When we have family outings I see her starting to get that "look" and I remind her what would those folks who are no longer with us be doing if they were here now? "Having a good time" she says, and then I tell her that she needs to have a good time in their honor. I think it helps.

Mom and dad. Moms been gone 16 and dad 6

Age 60 and 69. Way to young.

Dad died in 1980 when I was 11. Miss him and sad because memories fade after over 30 years and not much time spent with him. He was 46.

Mom died 2 years ago in April. Still hurts like hell.

Grandpa. He knew everything, would explain over the course of a car ride how a bridge was made, or how they lay down concrete. He was too funny.

Plus, he always gave the best gifts. My tackle box, tool box, favorite pocket knife, awesome flash light and .22 all came from him.

As coincidence would have it… I was randomly listening to Hallelujah as I read thru this.

And it's not a cry that you hear at night

It's not somebody who's seen the light

It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There are many people I miss, for different reasons at different times. I lost my dad, my really good friend Jennifer, my really, really good friend Birdsfan, and my LuckyDog all within a short period. I have never fully recovered from any of those. Last week was the 3 year anniversary of when I had to let my LuckyDog go. I was a coward and didn't stay with him till the end. I will NEVER forgive myself for that. I don't live with many regrets because I consider them futile. That one, I will never be able to let go.

Dad was the rock of our family. Lived with ill health and chronic pain for 18 years leading up to his death but never once complained. Died when I was only 22. I feel like he missed a lot of my life that I wish I could have shared with him. Because I was fairly young when the onset of his RA occurred, there were a lot of things he was limited in doing. Prior to my birth he had been a great athlete and participated in many sports even into his forties. But his ability to throw a baseball or football deteriorated fairly quickly. I feel like I missed out on a lot of his life--when he was healthy and active.

He died on Christmas Day. He simply didn't wake up. Christmas is always bitter-sweet for me. At some point during the day I need to be alone and shed a few tears.

Grandma died in 94 when i was a teen. While I missed her around the holidays and such it wasnt as big a deal till around the time the wife and i were planning our wedding. Ever since then i miss her dearly.

My mamaw. Her homemade pies and peanut butter cookies, slipping me a $20, her sneaking a drink of my pawpaw's Old Grandad, taking up for me even when I was being a little poophead. No one can replace mamaw.

Grandparents are like that.

1968 was a bad year for papa's family. Two great-grandparents and two grandparents died that year. Youngest (my mom's dad) was 54.

But we NEVER had a family reunion. I'm not sure I had even heard the term "family reunion" before I moved to Kentucky.

Dad and mom. Dad died when I was 3 at age 36. Mom died at age 57 when I was 28. Both way too soon.
