I miss my------

Featured Replies

I also miss my youth. I could eat anything I wanted and be skinny as can be. Found out later that DOES catch up to you.

I miss my sister Sherri, lost all too young at the age of 18 to a drunk driver. I miss my mom and my best friend Birdsfan. I miss my aunt Nora, my favorite aunt. I miss my friends, Tom and Kurt who both died too young. I miss my wife's fantastic parents and her two wonderful aunts, all died of cancer within four years. I miss a very sweet and kind family friend, Stephanie, who recently passed away at the age of 54.

I miss my youth, up until October of '78 when everything changed.

I miss my Mom - 5 years ago this month. I also miss going to my aunt and uncle's house over the 4th of July in in Boone KY. I remember fire crackers, sparklers and snakes you could just throw on the ground and they would crawl like a snake. Loved the peach homemade ice cream and watermelon too. Good memories

I just spoke on the phone with my beloved Uncle. My Aunt has been gone 3 or 4 years now in June.

We lived across the country road from them and they had a fire pit behind their garage. We would often sit back there at night and have a wienie roast. We'd look at the stars and my cousins, sister, and me would find the constellations and then listen to my Dad and Uncle talk about growing up on the farm during the Great Depression. Lots of laughter and great feelings being a part of a great family.

On a holiday such as the 4th, we'd have a little more elaborate cookout, meaning it was planned and people brought more substantial dishes. Often an Aunt who lived a couple of hours away would come and one of the aunts would make Texas Sheet cake and then we would make homemade ice cream. I took my turn at the crank and helping to dump in the rock salt and ice. Later, we had an electric version. Nothing tastes better than ice cream that you've had to sweat over to make.

Thanks for mentioning homemade ice cream @GaViking. It brought back some good memories for me, too.

My grandma (dad's mom) is a tough one for me. Lost her in 2001 when I was 12. I can't remember things like what I had for dinner two nights ago but I remember that day clearly. One of the worst days I've had.

My uncle as well. He's been gone just over 2 years and I still can't wrap my head around it at all.
