United Kingdom to leave European Union

Featured Replies

Of course, there isn't a welcoming statue saying "Give us your tired, your poor. Your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free" at the mouth of the Thames.

Well, 'The Empire' had a different solution. Take over a region and 'make them British'.

(And set up a private central bank tied to Britain's private central bank as the price of 'being British')

Keep in the back of your mind the fact that this vote was non-binding. If the obstacles to leaving become too onerous, there is the possibility that Britain could stay. I wonder if the rest of the EU will try to do just that - make leaving so bad that Britain's leaders choose to stay.

Possibly. Especially since they're going to try and make access to the common market part of the exit negotiations. I don't know how much patience the rest of the union will have for them at this point. Hopefully it doesn't get to that level of spite, as both Britain and the rest of the EU have a lot to lose if that trade between them slows.

It also sounds like the EU will likely make negotiating UK's exit onerous to discourage other states from leaving. If the UK gets to have their cake and eat it too (all of the good parts of EU membership without any of the sacrifices) I'm sure others might find leaving enticing.

I saw somewhere that the UK has two years to leave, and as you mentioned, they could end up not leaving. But, I also see where the EU basically told the UK to take a hike and to leave now, as they don't want them around anymore.

I hope Germany don't vote to get out and send all those Muslim immigrants to America.

Wow! So I guess if they are Christians then they would be welcomed here?

This is obviously going to hurt in the short term, any major economic change will. But I do think some of negative drastic outlooks are a little chicken little. Negotiations will be tough but they need each othe . This isn't Greece leaving.

The biggest comedy of this whole affair has been the economic papers coming out on both sides. Sloppy work to rush to make a point.

The Americans once left their Colonial masters as well, worked out pretty well.

Got to figure this song was getting a lot of play leading up to the vote

Can this be combined with the Brexit thread?

We better start taking all the Christians who wants leave because they are becoming extinct due to the genocide of Christians in the Middle East.

But yet our current administration refuses to help them.
