June 22, 201610 yr This isn't a complicated workplace issue. The temp needs to be fired immediately. He made the conscious decision to publicize his racist views by wearing a sleeveless shirt to work, thus creating a toxic work environment.
June 22, 201610 yr ^ Racist according to common perceptions ^ Not Racist according to common perceptions So double standard.
June 22, 201610 yr ^ Racist according to common perceptions ^ Not Racist according to common perceptions I would call it PC perceptions.
June 22, 201610 yr If they interact with customers, they're covering it up. If not, and it doesn't cause any distractions or issues with other employees, I think I just let it go. Except that as a manager/business owner, you must be cognizant of the fact there is a very strong likelihood that it is offensive to your other employees and may make them uncomfortable. And the other employees are not going to feel comfortable enough to tell you so. Cover with sleeves or buh bye.
June 22, 201610 yr As you can see, tatoo's can be a slippery slope in the workplace. And that's why most places do not allow visible tattoo's. By requiring all tattoo's to be covered up and not visible, managers/owners don't have to be in the tattoo interpretation business. And kids, this another reason you need to think real hard about getting that neck tattoo you've been wanting.
June 22, 201610 yr Why is it racist to be proud of being white? I think all this white, black, gay pride stuff is absolutely stupid. Be proud to be alive.

June 23, 201610 yr People are mentally substituting pride for power. Perhaps. But the facts are that white folks, as a group, have always had the power in this country. Good, bad or indifferent, that adds a different texture to the argument of white power v. black power v. brown power (Latinos) and whether any of them have any real power to impose their will upon anyone. Only one group in this country has ever had that.

June 23, 201610 yr So wearing a White Pride or White Power Tattoo in Mexico wouldn't be considered racist? That raises an interesting question I had not considered. However, the reason I never considered it is because when does this ever happen? How many neo-NAZI types do you know who want to be world travelers and soak in other cultures? So I guess that kinda trumps that, since they don't like nonwhites and wouldn't be going there anyway.
