Mercer County Titans Tailback ran a 4.6 laser timed 40 today at UK

Featured Replies

D Smith (Donald Smith II) ran a 4.6 laser timed 40 today at UK.

Smith is very fast, hand timed he would be in the low 4.5s or better.

Coach Stoops, Gran & Schlarman were pleased & impressed.

Smith plays tailback for the Titans and his dad is Donald Smith the AD at Mercer. Dad played at Harrodsburg High School and WKU.

Way to Rock It D!

Great job, by a great kid! Mercer county could be set to make a deep run this year. Keep working hard, good things will happen!

D had a great day. I am happy for him. Tyus Short was named the top lineman at the camp at UK. Grayson Blevins had a very good day at linebacker at Marshall's camp.

These guys and their teammates are a good group of young men. I enjoy coaching them. :thumb:

I was told that Lincoln County's Bryson Yaden was laser-timed at 4.8. Good job for a rising sophomore. He's a playmaker for the Patriots and has a high football IQ. Looking forward to the next three years.

Donald Smith was a great football player and is a great guy. His boy sounds like a chip off the old block.

4.6 Laser is still pretty slow for any Athlete on a D1 radar of his stature at 5'6 and 160, add 30lbs and it's a bit more impressive.

Let the kid live. He had a good day at a camp and is obviously getting positive feedback. Let him live.

This is why we have the trophy kid generation. Celebrating mediocre times and players, like UK is actually going to be interested in him.

adjective

of only moderate quality; not very good.

"a mediocre actor"

synonyms: ordinary, average, middling, middle-of-the-road, uninspired, undistinguished, indifferent, unexceptional, unexciting, unremarkable, run-of-the-mill, pedestrian, prosaic, lackluster, forgettable, amateur, amateurish;

For what it's worth, in my opinion, a 4.6 laser time is not mediocre.

This makes me smile.

Fine young man, from a fine family. Best of luck D!!!!

The best thing about a 4.6 is it's faster than a 4.7. But it's not that fast in the grand scheme of things. Doesn't mean the kid isn't a great high school football player and won't be able to play in college, but it's not exactly a noteworthy time.

I wouldn't call a 4.6 mediocre, especially at the high school level. 7 running backs at the latest NFL combine ran slower than a 4.6. This is laser times as well, so it's as legit as can be.

At a 4.6 he's one of the faster kids in the state most likely. He ran for over 600 yards on 110 carries and 12 TDs according to their khsaa stats reported, that led the team in rushing . Wouldn't call him a mediocre player either.

Let the kid have his shine and don't be so negative, he's a kid you're an adult. What's your 40 time?

14 running backs ran 4.6 or slower at the 2014 combine. I'll take it and it sounds like Stoops and crew were impressed with it.

It's not like the kid isn't going to keep growing and getting stronger, either. This time next year he may run a 4.5 and the year after that, 4.45.

Is there ANYTHING that says you don't get faster from the time you are a senior in high school until you are a junior or senior in college?

Is there a list of 40 times for high school football players? Not many below 4.6, I'll bet.

4.6 is FAST for a high school player. I would predict it is the fastest time at some football camps that D1 schools use to recruit from.

Kadin Smith, 6' 180 LB, Junior RB/DB from Spencer County ran 4.6 at UK Saturday as well. Ran for 1254 yards/15 TD's as a Sophomore. Averaged over 14 yards per carry last season.
