Agreed Watusi. He looks just like Corey in the face too. lol

Belfry's O needs a lot of work, but the D was VERY impressive even for an opening game.

Corey Chapman and Ivan Lee made big play after big play tonight. Hats off to NCC too, they will get better as the year goes along. Belfry's run D was amazing, and that's a salute to Vicars, I was really worried about his capabilities tonight against a young Pirate D.

All in all, it was a very exciting game and I am glad the EKY team came out with the win.

Losing Deihl was a huge hit to NCC....it sounds like the Pirates' ability to contain Vicars is what kept this game close. Congrats to the Belfry Pirates.

NCC will be back.... sorry Newport but your opening night may get a little ugly next week.

Great game :ylsuper:

Going for 2 was absolutely the right call.

The game was full of great defense by both teams. Both teams had some turnovers, some forced and some not.

The difference was Belfry's neutralization of the running game of NCC, IMO. I don't know how many yards rushing they had, but it wasn't many. Vicars had one run of about 25 late in the game, and he fumbled at the end of it. Besides that, he really wasn't effective and that is not a slam on him, just credit to Belfry's D.

I thought NCC handled themselves with class, as expected. From the coaches and players to the fans I spoke with, they were the model a lot of teams should emulate. Their success is well deserved.

Speaking of class, nice post Watusi and you know I genuinely mean it. Winning with class shows as much character as losing with class. Congrats to Belfry and to NCC for what must have been a hard played game. Both teams got a lot out of this game and will improve.

Thanks Governor.

This is a young Belfry team. Someone said we had 22 sophomores on the team and I know a bunch of them were playing last night as well as many juniors. Out of the top 20 players who were getting the bulk of the time on the field, how many were seniors?

I can think of Burton, Warren, McCoy and Steele up front. And Chapman and Kohari and Epling from the skill guys. Are there many others?

Well, they've already lost one. Next will be Covcath, Ryle and Beechwood. Who knows, maybe Newport can beat them if you don't make errant throws and turn the ball over. I wish you luck. Would love to see Newport trounce Ncc.

It really doesn't matter if they lose to Belfry, Covcath, Ryle and even Beechwood for that matter. It only counts when the playoffs start and Belfry, Covcath and Ryle will not be a team they will play. NCC is doing what Mayfield does. Load the front part of the schedule with tough teams then just wait for 1A to begin. They have nothing to worry about.

I don't mean disrespect, but I imagine NCC fans are somewhat in shock. They seemed quite confident they would win handily. I know I expected them to hand the Pirates defeat. Wow was I wrong.

Its still early.. A PO'D Ashland team will be ready to go wild next week.. Belfry better enjoy the night and get to work.

Congrats to Belfry...Looks like you are off to good start...I wouldn't worry much about Ashland...They have a major problem tackling & you should be able to dominate them at the line of scrimmage...Also, as a whole the team speed is SLOW!!! If your defense is quick & strong, you should put a MAJOR butt kicking on them...

Congrats to Belfry! This is a HUGE win to start the season. Like I said in another thread if Coach Franklin can make that much $$$ selling somebody else's offense then Coach Haywood could make even more selling a defense to defend the spread!

I apologize to Belfry. I thought NC would stuff the run, and be able to have some success on offense. I had too much faith in NC. They must have been a 1 year wonder. I'm now predicting NCC will lose 4 regular season games.

You obviously didn't attend the game. Keep your faith in the Breds!

NCC will dominate the rest of the year. CovCath and Ryle will be tough games. They will dominate "A" this year. Defense was solid, offense will come around. Belfry has a very good team and should be commended.

Hey Cam I told you man you cant bet against Belfry at home I know it was not quite the score I had but they got it done

Not quite the score???? 35-14? I'll say it's not quite the score. Good win for Belfry though and hopefully an experience NCC can use to better themselves.

Big win for the Pirates..... and for AA football.... guess the 1A Champion isn't going to be far superior to a AA championship team after all.

Anyone have the stat lines from last night?

Soph's Cory Coleman, Andrew Elkins, Charlie Dotson, and Ivan Lee are going to be just plain studs for Belfry.

I was shocked by the way the game went and happily suprised.

Where's oneijoe when you need him to make a 1A vs. 2A point.?

Pretty even game. Great Defenses. Congrats Belfry a classy win by a classy team. IMO NCC shot themselves in the foot several times which might have won them the game. Missed field goals, bad snaps, penalties, fumbles, interceptions, dropped touchdowns, poor run blocking, and they still had a chance to beat one of the best 2A teams in the state last night during the final minutes. Its hard to beat great teams when you make that many mistakes and they kept fighting and didn't give up and almost stole won on a 2 point conversion. I don't want to sound like I'm making excuses here but they did drive almost 5 hours on a bus and were playing at a loud environment at Belfry for their first game.
