Belfy 7 NCC 6

Featured Replies

^^^NCC had already missed a short FG, late in the game on the road in a game where you were getting dominated...I can see it.

I didn't attend but isn't "dominated" a bit too strong of a word when they only lost by one point???

Exactly-makes no sense.

Great game :ylsuper:

Going for 2 was absolutely the right call.

The game was full of great defense by both teams. Both teams had some turnovers, some forced and some not.

The difference was Belfry's neutralization of the running game of NCC, IMO. I don't know how many yards rushing they had, but it wasn't many. Vicars had one run of about 25 late in the game, and he fumbled at the end of it. Besides that, he really wasn't effective and that is not a slam on him, just credit to Belfry's D.

I thought NCC handled themselves with class, as expected. From the coaches and players to the fans I spoke with, they were the model a lot of teams should emulate. Their success is well deserved.

Likely the best game, or at least finish, of opening night?

Nobody dominated, they were very evenly matched teams, even if they were somewhat polar opposites in style. It would be fun to watch another matchup between these two, something I would happily drive to NKY to watch next season. (hint, hint)

I meant Belfry's defense dominated most of the game. NCC had minus 22 yads rushing in the first half, don't know what it ended up being. Anyway, I agree with the decision to go for two.

I apologize to Belfry. I thought NC would stuff the run, and be able to have some success on offense. I had too much faith in NC. They must have been a 1 year wonder. I'm now predicting NCC will lose 4 regular season games.

Come on, now...

It isn't as if NCC lost to a "nobody".

The Breds will be well served by playing a top notch opponent like this early. It was truly a defensive battle on both sides. It was a great early season game !!

Hmm...;)

Good for both squads to meet in this type of game, both will benefit later on down the road from a game like this.

To who?

Well, they've already lost one. Next will be Covcath, Ryle and Beechwood. Who knows, maybe Newport can beat them if you don't make errant throws and turn the ball over. I wish you luck. Would love to see Newport trounce Ncc.

You should continue to have faith in NCC...it wasn't that they were bad, its just that Belfry was GOOD :ylsuper:

I was there. Im very excited about the amount of young talent on the field for Belfry. Primarily Juniors with several sophmores on Defense, and they almost pitched a shutout agains the defending 1a Champs!

#18 played a very good and spirited game. Ivan Lee was very impressive and as always #52 played great. #5 really responded after being thrust into a pressure situation. May and Chapman made big plays all night. The offense wasn't working all that well, but the intangible things were there (May's second effort at the end to ice the game and Corey's big strip after a long run)

This Pirate team could be very good. We will go as far as our Qb can take us. It wasn't a dream game for Preston but I thought he kept his composure very well and didn't let adversity take his mind out of the game. He will continue to get better every outing, and may not see another NG as good as #76. (the guy was a moster!)

Way to go Pirates!

...

Hmmm...

Just how sure are you those three are better than Belfry ?!? As sure as the many who thought NewCath would win -convincingly- tonight ?!?

:sssh:

Congrats Belfry!!

Sounds like it was a great game as I expected with these 2 great programs playing on the same field.

It was a great opening night game! Both teams had strong defenses, but needing some fine tuning on offense. Belfry had a lot of players cramping up tonight I noticed (which isn't unusual in the first game). I'm excited to see what the rest of the season brings out in my Pirates.
