Belfy 7 NCC 6

Congrats to the Pirates on what looked like an exciting game. Represented Eastern Ky well by beating a Northern Ky power. Just goes to show everyone scrimmages dont do Belfry justice. Keep up the good work Pirates, get back to that carpet and make us all proud.

^^^NCC had already missed a short FG, late in the game on the road in a game where you were getting dominated...I can see it.

Dominated? What game did you watch. It was a great game and they were pretty even.

Pretty even game. Great Defenses. Congrats Belfry a classy win by a classy team. IMO NCC shot themselves in the foot several times which might have won them the game. Missed field goals, bad snaps, penalties, fumbles, interceptions, dropped touchdowns, poor run blocking, and they still had a chance to beat one of the best 2A teams in the state last night during the final minutes. Its hard to beat great teams when you make that many mistakes and they kept fighting and didn't give up and almost stole won on a 2 point conversion. I don't want to sound like I'm making excuses here but they did drive almost 5 hours on a bus and were playing at a loud environment at Belfry for their first game.

I've never sat on the visitor's side of the stadium...I always wondered how loud it sounds from over there.

As far as the bus ride, the Belfry boys know exactly how it feels. They had to travel on yellow school buses to Middlesboro and then to Erlanger in 2003. They had to travel to Louisville on school buses that year also....now that I think of it...the long rides didn't really bother them at all that year...;)

Wasn't there a thorough discussion in the prelude of this game talking about how the crowd noise wouldn't affect NCC any?

Well it appears as though the Pirates have some potential this year, especially on defense. What I want to know is can the fumble bug be corrected and is it just me or did the o-line not seem to play to the level that they were being expect to.

It was the first game, I am sure the fumble bug will be corrected, you have to remember this QB hasen't seen action since the 4th game of last season, the rust will wear off. One has to remember who the Pirates just beat. They beat a team who most on BGP thought would "roll" over the Pirates. I am one proud Belfry Pirate fan to know that the Pirates are starting thier season off with a quality win and I think this season has a lot of promise for the young Pirates.

orisonspi, welcome to BGP, its great to see more Pirate fans logging on. Looking forward to many good conversations about the Bucs. :thumb:

I am ecstatic as well, but I also know how quickly that excitement can fade with one loss at the hands of an Ashland team who everyone suddenly thinks we will walk over.

Thanks Watusi... I am actually a veteran on here who has been lurking in the shadows for a while now. But, this is going to be a lifeline for me now that my distance to CAM has been extended an additional hour.

I agree .. these young Pirates must realize that they must take it one game at a time.. Ashland will not be an easy win by any means, but they need to know it can be done. One thing I really noticed about this Pirate team last night is that they all seem to be hard workers and no one seem to let up at all, if this team can keep getting better every week as Haywood says then they can be a very successful football team come playoff time.

Great game :ylsuper:

Going for 2 was absolutely the right call.

The game was full of great defense by both teams. Both teams had some turnovers, some forced and some not.

The difference was Belfry's neutralization of the running game of NCC, IMO. I don't know how many yards rushing they had, but it wasn't many. Vicars had one run of about 25 late in the game, and he fumbled at the end of it. Besides that, he really wasn't effective and that is not a slam on him, just credit to Belfry's D.

I thought NCC handled themselves with class, as expected. From the coaches and players to the fans I spoke with, they were the model a lot of teams should emulate. Their success is well deserved.

Sounds like a great game for both teams ! Congrat's to Belfry for the win !:thumb:

Belfry did seem to have room to improve in the conditioning department. Didn't see any NCC kids cramping up, but many Pirates were cramping and gasping late in the contest. In one respect you gotta love the effort it takes to be that gassed, but at the same time, you have to improve endurance.

The heat will die down and it should become less of a factor.

I agree with you but Belfry shot theirself in the foot alot also. We had so many dropped snaps and false starts. We was always pushing our offense back and busting plays with those mistakes and with Belfrys Offense that is crucial. We also had the ball down in field goal range and fumbled on 3rd down I believe it was close to the end of the 3rd. Both teams made those mistakes but its only the first game of the year.

I believe these two teams are pretty evenly matched and both have alot to look forward to. Both teams are very good, play hard, well coached, and has alot of class. That sounds like 2 very bright seasons to me.

When I spoke to the guru on the phone yesterday this was the first score I asked him about.

Congrats Belfry.:dancingpa

You missed a good Pike County Bowl. Beside for SV/Phelps they were all pretty good games. Both nights had two heart stopping games. One of them involving Pike Central who is one of your fav teams if Im not mistaking. Then this game was so great. Teach you to stay at home haha.

Also this story was pretty cool we talked with a coach from virginia who had scrimaged over in West Virginia at Williamson I think. He had heard about Belfry and stopped and watched the game. When he left he said it was 2 of the best teams he has watched and one of the best atmospheres hes ever been in. That says alot for Belfry comming from another coach.
