Not calling it a lock at all...but I think Murray wins. More options, and I think Boone and Hoskins, each teams best player cancel each other out. But wouldn't be surprised if Buckhorn won.

You and me both. It's been a long time since much of anything good happened for Doss -- or the neighborhood it's located in for that matter -- and the culture around the school that works up buzz for big attendance simply isn't present. I definitely hope they can find a way to get some folks there this year.

 

They did not have a very big contingent at last week's regional tournament, which is not a good sign for next week.

 

Having said that, this Doss team seems a lot less dysfunctional than last year's team. They play hard and under control. I have enjoyed watching them in the games I have seen this year. Unfortunately, I would be surprised if they have a very big crown next week.

Lawrence Co for sure. I'm picking them to spring the upset.

I think South Laurel is probably the best of the mountain schools.

Lawrence County is very athletic and play bigger than their size. The Dalton brothers are high flyers who will get a few rim rattling dunks a game. All 5 can dribble, all 5 can pass, all 5 can shoot from the perimeter. They will surprise you with how strong they are physically thus giving them the ability to guard taller players and lead the state in scoring. They do have very little bench and that could be a weakness only if foul trouble comes into play. Of all the mountain teams (When looking at matchup's) I like LC the most with SL a very close second. Both will be underdogs, but Lawrence might surprise alot of people.

 

In the Trinity game, the Rocks shot the lights out in the 2nd quarter so dont really read too much into that. The game they lost to Perry Central the Dores shot the lights out as well. It will take either a very good performance by Doss or foul trouble to beat LC. They are very tough to press and more explosive on an athletic level than most might think. Very fun team to watch! Dont be surprised to see LC advance.

I hope they all win. My time living in the mountains still pulls at me.

I just saw them in December as well, so I can't speak to their improvement since then.

 

But your comment about Doss also being high-scoring is why I think this will be the most entertaining game of the entire 1st Round. I just hope Doss brings a larger contingent of fans than they did last year.

 

FWIW, Lawrence is 1-1 against the field. Beat NewCath & lost to Trinity.

 

I agree with your comment about the lack of fan support for the Doss players. I felt sorry for those kids last year. They had less than a hundred fans. The school should run some buses for their games. And the players and cheerleaders have relatives.....where were they??? Really a shame.

My county school is the only school in the county, high school enrollment 215. Our county's population is 4,500. But I guarantee if the Owls were ever fortunate enough to make it to state (two runner ups is as close as we've been to winning region) at least half the county would be in Rupp plus many more that's moved away to the Bluegrass and surrounding states.

 

Where is the school spirit and fan support of some of these schools???
