NKY 4A- embarassing?

Two years ago Dixie was waxed by NCC in a scrimmage 28-0. Would you care to guess how Dixie faired against T that year?

That's a very good point and I would buy it more if Dixie had gone on to the State Finals. It was a great accomplishment for Dixie and its players and staff. That is also why they should not be struggling with NCC; NCC is a great 1A program, but Dixie is on the road to being a tremendous 4A program and should dominate all 1A opponents if they are really are a threat to X and T.

I don't have any program from that game, but on the feild the sea of blue was just as great as the sea of red. And since Manual is an academically inclined school, the pull of athletes isn't quite as great. Of course, the team that year was a complete mystery. They go out and lose to Danville in the first game. Go and are beating the stuffing our of Eastern in the first half of the next game, only to have Eastern come back and win. Then they beat Trinity who goes on to win state. Manual doesn't even have a winning season that year (first and only time since '98). So you can argue what kind of team they were that year. On the otherhand, I still say the numbers argument, while logical, isn't a certainty, especially for a team like Danville, who often has several great athletes that can run the stuffing out of other teams for the entire game.

Maybe Manual is a special case because of its academic draw, of which I am not fully aware. But is Danville's best years, albeit a great 1A program, they can't compete with the X and T's of the world.

I suppose that's true enough. There'd still be those that argue Danville or any GREAT 1A team could play a game or two with them, but I'd say only in their BEST years. And I don't think even in their best years they could make it through 4A playoffs.

(Did Danville win 1A state in 03? I forgot, but I THINK they did.)

I watched the game plenty close; Dixie didn't score an offensive TD after the first two drives, and Bricking and Molony and the big "O" line played plenty after the first two offensive series as well as the defense. This isn't the NFL; coaches play their starters in scrimmages much more than 2 series.

You couldn't have since there was no "game". I don't believe how much emphasis some of you put on scrimmages. They're nothing more than glorified practices with another team. Once the regular season starts, we can talk about how good or bad a team played. Until then, its all practice. Maybe these threads are just practice for Monday Morning Quarterbacks so they can get in shape for the regular season.

And they are using up their best lines... during practice.

Now we have someone who has made some since in this thread!

Just like Allen Iverson said "Its pratice man we are talking about pratice man".

maybe he was onto something

Maybe it's just me, but in the overall scheme of things, how can you call high school football embarassing? Isn't it more than just winning and losing at that level? I think it's embarassing that adults would place such importance on winning and losing, and lose sight of the "other" things to be learned by playing team sports.

JMO.

If the NKY 4A teams are REALLY good, and want a chane to beat X or T, they should not lose to ANY 1A school, no matter how good.

Say whatever you want--but you know as well as I do--Beechwood has 100 boys that are a little different than your normal A school.

The Beechwood 100 is closer to the NKY AAAA 700 any day of the week (and you know that) as opposed to the NKY 700 being closer to the X/T 1500. And for that matter--that is a pretty true statement for every part of the state when you compare it to X/T. (Again--I don't care about public/private).

X/T are great schools that attract great student athletes (just like Beechwood does for a smaller school with open enrollment). They draw the best from a larger area than Kenton County (open enrollment) or Hebron, Florence, Union, Covington, etc.

You understand the difference--you just feel like arguing. (Imagine that).

I didn't say we pulled all the starters , because there still looking at some spots . We just started mixing more players in different positions to see who could play with who . The line ( O-D ), wr's ,rb's and db's going in and out. There working with a core of players for "O" and one for "D" .So its going to take alittle time to find the right mix !:p Once again , We have 77 to 80 players to look at . How many players does NCC or your team have ?

NCC has 63 players on the roster (Sophs/ Jrs/ Srs). One sidenote is that both teams subbed extensively. For example, NCC's Vickers played much less than he would have if it was a real game. Split time at RB, only played a couple of plays on defense (will play DB more if needed in the season), was not in on most punts or KO's returns.

Arguing- no.

100% disagreeing- yes.

How many tuition students does Beechwood have that are starting???(if those 100 are as different as you claim?)

Do you think there is a big drop-off after Vicars or are they pretty close.

To answer your question--I have no clue. But I know in the past--(as recent as 2 years ago) there were 6 in the starting lineup on both sides of the ball.

My point is this (and it has nothing to do with tuition)--Beechwood is not what you would call a "run of the mill" A program. The football players at Beechwood (for whatever reason you choose)--are better than the average 1A football player (for various reasons--coaching, expectations, work ethic, etc). Therefore , their 100 is closer to the 700 kids at the other AAAA schools in NKY compared to NKY being closer to the 1500 kids that X/T have to choose from.

Not to mention the fact that the law of averages should eventually come in to play (which speaks to BOTH of our points). If you have 1500 boys--chances are--you have a bigger, more talented pot to draw from (again--not passing judgment--just dealing with numbers). If you think that the odds of probability say that you should have just as many (or even close) athletes in the pot of 700 . . . . . . (I will keep my stupid comment to myself there).

Arguing . . . maybe not. But--some people have made some valid points--and you disagree and don't even consider them. There is a lot more that could be said about an objective conversation versus the same old, same old from Wildcat.

Do you think there is a big drop-off after Vicars or are they pretty close.

Right now there is a big drop-off but that is somewhat expected as Vickers is quite good and the back-ups don't have much experience. As they year progresses the gap will narrow much as it did when Vickers was a Soph behind more experienced RBs. They are fine at fullback. The receivers are all new and were adequate but should get better too.

Even Class A teams with large rosters aren't all that deep at some positions especially early in the year. Injuries can really take a toll.

Dixie was kind of up obviously on the first two drives and then stalled after that. I think it was 5 series in a row with punts or TO's.

And it was just a scrimmage. Both teams had some stupid penalties that messed up things. And remember coaches are trying to see who makes plays etc. For example, on the Dixie kickoff return for a TD probably half the kids on the field for both teams won't be on the opening kickoff this week.
