Let's don't kid ourselves. We want to win. We want to anihilate the competition. But we also want to keep our eye on the prize. A state championship title and ring. Right or wrong, Tom and Dave always fine tunes the team over the first three non-games. We get better as the year progresses. Does that mean that you will ever get anything but our best effort? No. But the team that won the district last season did not resemble the team that started by getting blown out last year. These games are important to us on a personal level. You want to be able to beat HHS and CCH in a given year, that speaks volumes to you and everyone else on where your program can go in that season. But win or loose, we will get better just for competing against these great programs. Hence the reason we play them. Hence the reason we added Beechwood. Hence the reason we scrimmage NCC. Those are the other 4 of the top 5 programs in NKY.

Definetly a fail-safe policy. Play the best to be the best. Boone and Campbell county both failed to see the logic, as they cut off their series with Highlands 2 years ago. Respect to Dixie. After this Fri, I am also rooting for the Red Colonels:thumb:

Back atcha!:thumb: I think that it'll be a very good game and can't wait to read the press on Friday night. I want to win, but more important to me is where the team is at at this stage in the year. I remeber a couple of years ago when we played HHS at Dixie in a slugfest that we lost. We should have won that one except for some stupid mistakes, most of which were on O and special teams. The ending score was not as close as the game truly was. I didn't think we were very good at the time, boy was I wrong.  That's the same year we beat Trinity in the second round.

I root for Dixie to do well every game except when they play the Birds...I live off of Turkeyfoot so that is the public school the kids in my sub-division go to...GO COLONELS!!!!!! every other game.....:thumb:

Highlands vs. Dixie is the game of the week for one of the TV channels. I just can't remember which one. Anyone know which it is?

The way the Kentucky playoff system is setup, I agree with Coach Spritzky on scheduling as tough as possible out of district because it does nothing but helps you get ready for your district schedule and a playoff run. My comments came from a comment that the first three games are scrimmage games. If you notice, the top rated programs in NKY have pretty tough out of district schedules. Dixie, Highlands, CovCath, Ryle, NCC, Boone Co., and Beechwood all play pretty tough schedules.

Just to let you know as an alum, I am rooting for Dixie, but I don't know if they will pull this one out. I believe it will be close, but Highlands will pull away late 28-14. I am going to say that Dixie comes back next week and beats Beechwood.

Thanks.:thumb:

How about this:

Dixie -24

Highlands - 21

Dixie plays a slow grinding ground game and slowing down the high power attack of Highlands. That is the only way Dixie can win this game. They have to play a control game.

I hope you're right. Do you think they can do this? They run more of a spread offense and like to throw the ball around, than just lining up and shoving the ball down you throat.

Really? Oh well I guess you got me technically. Cause what HHS people do is talk about a percieved deficiency in an opponent due to the unspoken superiority of their own squad. 67-10 was posted by who a ludlow supporter?

Don't know about that but 63-7 was posted by a CCH fan. As for me, I think it will be along the lines of 31-17.

I think Coach Spritzky is smart enough to know that you can slow the game down and still run the spread offense. I think they can run the short passing game, mix in some draws or counters and control the clock . The only way Dixie hangs with Highlands is to take the ball out of the Highlands offense. Dixie must also play well on special teams and not give up any big plays.

I expect to see nothing but squib kickoffs and punts going out of bounds from Dixie. Tom learned something a couple of years ago. I believe last year when Dixie kicked off the one time, it was a squibb kick. Tom will do the same this year.

Very well said SM32!

Dixie will be kicking off exactly one time. Maybe 2 is the 63-7 score I predicted holds up. If Dixie has any sense, they will punt it out of bounds on every punt. That'll be often.
