I buy in bulk....at least during football season.
We have never done a traditional two adays practice in the last 10 years.

That's why at the beginning of the year they are huffing and puffing and out of shape...Spritz needs to have 2 adays to get the kids in football shape.. That is why I think they traditionally start off slow...Just my opinion.:D

That's part of the reason for the slow starts. However, also take a look at the starting lineup for game 1 and compare it to game 4. Most years, it is completely different. However, I don't think there's any excuse for a slow start this year as they return too many players with varsity experience.

I guess it's put up or shut up time.......I just don't understand Tom's thinking on this..

What I mean by that is that one practice is in pads. The other is devoted to lifting, running, agilities, and going over plays. No contact or pads in the second. Sorry if I misled. Our teams shoud be ready for day one, we have the right schedule of practice and preperation I believe, but you only get out of it what you put into it. So I will sit on the same side of the fence as the rest of you untill my team proves to me that they "get it", and are not winded in the first game of the year due to conditioning.

Honest answer. Unlike Ft. Thomas, I don't think the kids "get it". I don't think they get that if they work night and day, all year round, that they can go out and seriously compete for a state title year in and out. I hoping that it's sinking in, but instead of blindly giving them the nod for something they haven't earned. I'll wait until they prove it on the field with the rest of you. Tom does what he can, but your only as good as the kids who are in your system.

Most games between D and HHS have been competitive in recent years. I doubt that this game will resembe last years. We return almost the entire team.

I don't know his philosophy, but it seems to work. To a fan (like myself), it looks as though he treats the first 3 games as extended scrimmages, except the entire 1st string plays. During these games, and between weeks, he'll move guys around and plug new ones in. Come district time, the teams competes, and is usually one of the top 3 in the district. The first 3 games to them doesn't mean a thing. Yeah, they go out to win, and I'm sure they love to beat Highlands and CovCath, but they know the season really starts the 4th week of the season. And as a fan, I'm completely content with that as I understand how the KY playoff system works. It's especially satisfying when you had to endure the Browning days.

I'm surprised that they do not do the traditional two-a-days. That means Dixie is getting approximately half the amount of practice time as the rest of the teams. Walk throughs are nice and all, but actually running through plays and doing positional work is a major part of practice. A lot of positional drills would be kind "watered down" if your in shorts and a helmet.

I doubt Coach Spritzky views the first three games as scrimmages, especially Highlands and CovCath.

Except for '94, Coach Browning didn't have the most talent to work with, or a lot of the better football players either played another sport or went to another school. Even the first couple of years that Coach Spritzky coached, they were not were they are now. As my earlier post said, I may not agree with not doing a full two-a-days the first two weeks you are allowed to practice in KY, but Coach Spritzky definitely has built a nice program. The number of kids in the program are staggering compared to ten years ago, and that is a tribute to the kids actually wanting to play for him and those who should be attending Dixie are actually attending Dixie instead of another school.

I understand where you are coming from..Me personally being a HHS fan we play as tough a schedule as posssible to get our kids ready for a run at the state title. The non-conference games don't mean as much, but they are sure nice to win though..Hopefully we can win a few of those games that were not supposed too....

Dont underestimate the importance of the non conference schedule. Yes it definetly gets the team ready for a title run, but if you happen to have that great season and win all those games and the state title, something else would come along with it:banana:

I thought two a days weren't allowed for most schools. Of course, there's always the gym. That's speaking from Kentucky not Fort ThomasVille.

Let's don't kid ourselves. We want to win. We want to anihilate the competition. But we also want to keep our eye on the prize. A state championship title and ring. Right or wrong, Tom and Dave always fine tunes the team over the first three non-games. We get better as the year progresses. Does that mean that you will ever get anything but our best effort? No. But the team that won the district last season did not resemble the team that started by getting blown out last year. These games are important to us on a personal level. You want to be able to beat HHS and CCH in a given year. That speaks volumes to you and everyone else on where your program can go in that season. But win or loose, we will get better just for competing against these great programs. Hence the reason we play them. Hence the reason we added Beechwood. Hence the reason we scrimmage NCC. Those are the other 4 of the top 5 programs in NKY. Who else that is not one of those teams plays a schedule like that?
