I am not close to the program but comments made on here by those who seem close to the program indicate they expect another difficult year but that there is some young talent to throw into the mix. I'm sure they boys are working their tails off trying to improve on last year. Can't wait to see how it all comes together.

 

Even IF they have another down year, it will still consist of them playing no less than 14 games, just like this past season. Those kids have grown up around that and understand what Highlands football is. The standard there is state championships regardless of how good or bad they may be. Last year's team wasn't that good in many facets of the game yet they still found a way, and should a have won, to get into the semi-finals. Until they have a season where they don't make it past the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs, I won't buy into them being bad.

Please tell me who will replace all of the players that i have listed.

A Highlands bad year is a state semi-finalist which is a major accomplishment for some schools.

 

The last time the Birds had a down period was 2005-06 with records of 9-4 and 7-5. I think everyone knows how they rebounded then. Over the next 8 years it was a 7-1 record in the finals and a 113-7 record overall. Is there as much talent there as the 8 year run, probably not, but the tradition is still there and this group is going to have a major chip on their shoulders in 2016 and come out mad. The O-line replaces 2-3 guys every year and they always find backs and receivers. With some steady play at qb I see a 7-3 or 8-2 regular season and atleast a semi-final game.

Offseasons like this show the beauty of coaching and developing young men. You can't predict physical maturity, in regards to the time frame that it happens. You have an idea of who is going to be what, but until they roll out in the Spring, and then again in August, you truly don't know. From a personal perspective, I hope that Pulsfort has a huge year. He comes from a great family.

I predict a similar year as last year for the Birds.....nice run in the playoffs.

Losing a close game in the semi-finals is a down year by Highlands standards. It might not happen for another decade. What made it a down year in my mind was losing games to a couple also rans like Ryle and SK. When you see Ryle and SK on the schedule, historically, you can expect an easy night.

So I guess the question is how far down were they. Arguably only 1 to 2 teams in 5A were better or equal to them. Is this a case of NKY 6A finally catching up to HHS? If I remember correctly Campbell County played them to a 1 score game the year before in 2014. It's obvious nobody in their class or lower has caught up to them so once again how far down were they?

They will have a very fast and experienced RB tandem in Grant Murray and Jared Pulsfort. Michael Dunn started on the OL as a sophomore and is a College prospect. They have a very talented WR corp returning with Posey, Vennaman and Huber. A ton of speed and great hands there. Not sure who will throw it to them though.

 

It will be interesting to see how they approach the QB position whether its based on loyalty or future development.

I am sure that has always been the case...however, you have to deal with the cards that are dealt.

Don't know, someone closer to the program will have to answer that as I've never paid much attention to JV records except when my son played. I think they played some nice teams though.
