I'm always happy when a kid gets a full ride for education and gets to continue playing the sport they love, but the Williams boy will most likely if not definitely never see the NCAA tournament at NKU

 

Why would NKU never see the NCAA Tournament? They are eligible starting next season, and with Williams and Mason Faulkner joining their roster, I could see them winning the league they are in. Other than Valpo, it's a collection of has-beens (Detroit) and never-beens (Wright State, Oakland). NKU could win that league next year. From what I saw, they have won 5 or 6 games this season in that league with a roster of mostly D-2 types of players. Wait until the coach gets guys like Williams and Faulkner. They also have a transfer who played at Alabama sitting out, and he is apparently a big guy.

Based on what I saw this year....I wouldnt count NKU out of the Horizon title in the near future.

Both Harrisons were decent college players, nothing more. Both overrated badly by these "experts" who never played a minute of basketball. Sad situation. The "D" League is no fun for any of them. And they still have to pay their agents even if they are not in the NBA. Very sad.

Just because you are ranked ahead of UK doesn't make you better than them. I think they would beat Xavier if they played. I do like having Ky boy's on our team, a matter of fact we seem to win it when we do. Even Louisville's most recent championship had a player from CAL that won the game for them with back to back 3's . I do however think they all 3 would struggle for playing time. Dominique and Willis both are pretty dang good and have worked hard to play. And both of them are better than those 3 right now, that doesn't mean however they won't become a better player later on.

In reference to Xavier being better than UK, we have to realize that Xavier plays mostly college seniors (who developed over 4 years). Plus I'd wager that UK beats Xavier if they played now. I love Williams' game but these comparisons are outrageous. It's crazy that college FRESHMAN are labeled as busts and they haven't even completed their first year. I'm a not even a UK fan, I'm a basketball realist. Let's visit these players that Williams is compared to on here: Skal - 7 footer with range to the 3 point line and a deft touch around the rim. Skillset is very good. Just not strong enough physically to show everything that he can do yet. Once he gets stronger, and can play with the physicality he's facing we're talking about a top 5 pick and could have a very good NBA career. Briscoe - 6'3" PG who's very explosive and strong and can get to the rim either way at will. Can't shoot very well from deep. Happens to be playing out of his natural position, because he's playing alongside possibly the best PG in college bball in Ullis. Harrisons - both 6'6" Guards who were very strong and great at attacking body to body. I'm the first to say that they aren't top 5 worthy like projected, but we're still talking about two guards that had leading roles in a NCAA D1 Championship appearance, and a final four 38-1 season the very next year. I think they needed an extra year, but I wouldn't label their careers as busts either. Two final fours isn't bad (and they were starters with the ball in their hands most of the time) at the highest level. We're comparing these guys to a great kid, but one that is 6'7" and explosive around the basket. very strong, but not much of a perimeter game or ball handling, and isn't great with his left. He's a great HS bball player, and he will do phenomenal at NKU in the Horizon league in my opinion, but let's not get over board. We're comparing him to guys with better skill sets and higher ceilings. I wouldn't say he was better than Keelan Martin from Ballard in HS (who is having a solid career at Butler, and went where he needed to go, as Williams is doing), who was the same size with a much better skill set, jumper, and perimeter game. Also could jump; let alone these All-Americans and Larry Bird. Do I want two guards that can lead me to two final fours in their first two seasons, or a guy that "may possibly" crack the rotation in 3-4 years? Not even close.

Williams needs to be able to take top level defenders off the dribble- I've seen him struggle when he's being defended by smaller guards who force him to play away from the basket.

I have seen Carson Williams, Quentin Goodin and Mason Faulkner all play this season. They are all outstanding performers, will do very well at the next level. It makes it sad for me as a UK fan to know the flagship school of this commonwealth did not even consider any of those three.

 

All three of these kids will be four-year players and get better as each season goes on in college. My question: Would you rather root for these players for four years who will work at their game and improve, or continue to get the one and done mercenaries that are making it hard for fans like myself to remain fans of UK's program?

 

I will say this, I have not seen Goodin play yet this season, but I do not think the other two would play for UK before mid way through their junior season, even if they red-shirted. Not many kids bleed enough blue to do that when they can go somewhere else and possibly make an immediate impact. Just my two cents. Not to mention, if you were Coach Cal, which of these three players would you offer a scholarship too over the recruits he has coming in next year??? He would be crazy to do that.
