Attendance is down in college football as well. Can't blame that on one and dones.

College football attendance drops for fifth straight year, but at slower rate - CBSSports.com

You are correct. I believe the public is becoming disillusioned by the obvious myth of "student-athletes" and the corporate types making it way too commercial. You can't even watch a college basketball or football game these days without four talking heads telling us everything we already know. And the commercials TV timeouts...hard to stomach all the stoppages in play. I was a GA at Portland State in the late 1970s and we had entire games with no stoppages of play whatsoever unless a coach called a timeout. The games had a much better flow and were enjoyable to watch. We never had a 2 hour game unless there was overtime. Now every game goes more than 2 hours. No wonder people have quit watching and attending college sports.

I think it's been pretty well documented that they are in fact going to class during the second semester and doing very well in class also.

By the way, Bob Knight called and want's his inflammatory comments back.

Documented? By who? Is there a link?

Too many kids with too much hype. My God, not everybody is the 2nd coming of MJ. I will say this about UK: I think without Darius Miller (Mason County) they don't get that National Championship and without Derek Willis (Bullitt East) this year stepping up they wouldn't be as successful as they have been of late. I also always like to drag out my " Chris Lofton (Mason County) isn't good enough to play here lament no matter how much he wants to play here ". Personally, I like the long view but I can't live and die Blue when I can't keep up with the player names without a que card. JOHMO

I will go on record right now and say Carson Williams presence at NKU next season will immediately reap benefits in attendance as the entire population of Owen County will be at most of his games, if they do not play the same nights as Owen County. Mason Faulkner is also a great steal for NKU. Without knowing much about their team, I think those two freshmen will have a great chance to start next season, and the fans will love watching them for four years.

I agree with you totally. Chris Lofton was supposedly not good enough for UK, but look what he did at UT. Derek Willis another great example. Remember Reggie Hanson years ago? How about Deron Feldhous and John Pelphrey? UK did not want them at first, and now they are known as the "Unforgettables."

They are only at UK for money they will get in the NBA, no dedication to the program or fan base, is one reason.
Really, you evidently don't keep up with the players much. Nearly everyone of the players that has come through over the last 8 years, comes back to the program and Kentucky. Nerlens Noel a Half Year and Done due to Injury was in the State this week at the Governors Prayer Breakfast. Nerlens became very attached to a young man with cancer and stayed in touch with the boy and his family after leaving for the Big Bucks of the NBA. Anthony Davis, Demarcus Cousin, MKG, John Wall and others all come back to the community during the off season for camps and to speak to kids around the state. These kids come in and go to school and if everything works out well they have a chance to leave for the NBA after one year they do. If they get injured, don't play to expectations or aren't quite ready for the NBA they go to school get their degree and keep playing until they are NBA ready.

I understand that it would be great to have hometown heroes on the team, but I don't want a kid on the team just because of his ZIP Code...he can either play or not.

They come back because of Coach Cal, not UK. I am connected enough to know this is a fact. I could also include a laundry list of ex-players who NEVER come near Lexington, but I will avoid that discussion.

Lofton had a great Career at UT, but UK signed the #1 Class in the Country that year that included Joe Crawford, Rajon Rondo, Ramell Bradley and transfer Patrick Sparks...all of which were rated higher than Lofton was at the time and two of them were from Kentucky. Lofton was rated #138 by 24/7Sports coming out of Highschool, while Crawford and Rondo were both top 25 that season and even 4Star Recruit Bradley was ranked #83. So while he turned out to be a good college player coming out of high school very few people would have taken him over the 4 guards UK had coming in.

I guess Boogie speaking at my daughters school 2 of the last 3 years was because he was here to see Cal? If he's just here to see Cal why waste time going around the state to middle school and speaking to the kids? The list of those that don't come back is much shorter than the list of those that do. I also believe a couple of them are coming back in the summer to continue towards their degree...with their money they could go anywhere to do that.

But I get it, you like things they way they were 40 years ago...well the world changes and UK can either change with it or only be relevant every 4 or 5 years. Maybe IU is the team for you!

Why does Cousins come back? Let me give you a name: William Wesley. Same with most of the others you mention.

As far as liking things 40 years ago, yes, I admit to that. The world is such a great place today, right? HAHA

For those not aware, William Wesley is AKA "World Wide Wes" and he is Coach Cal's right-hand man in most recruiting yards. I would think most UK fans already know, but just in case.

Back in the day, Joe B. Hall had Seth Hancock helping out, but nothing like World Wide Wes.

What does WWW have to do with Boogie speaking at Elementary and Middle Schools? Could it possibly be because he feels connected to the state in some way and wants to give back?

You just seem to hate everything to do with UK at this point. You said the people on the "Call in Shows" agree with you. You must mean the ones before and after the games and the one on Monday I think where everybody rants and raves and gnashes teeth every time UK loses and wishes things were like they used to be. Some of those people think UK would be better off if there was a state law stating that all players should be from Kentucky...I guess you agree with that also.

I am actually a UK fan from way back. I just do not like the way college sports have become a cesspool. If you don't know about William Wesley's influence on Cousins and UK, no need to explain it. I think it is great Cousins does speak at schools, though he is not the type of role model I would want for smaller kids. See his anger problems in the NBA and even when he was with Coach Cal.

Do I think all players should be from Kentucky? No, but it would be nice if many were from this commonwealth. I get the feeling you are a winners-only-matter mentality. I am not. We can disagree and not become disagreeable.

Still waiting for your documentation, as you stated, for the classes they attend in the spring. My post there was about all players more than UK, but you said it is documented.

All of that influence and yet CAA of which WWW works for doesn't represent Cousins. In fact WWW's influence is soooooooo strong only 3 players have signed with his agency from UK. MKG who has known him as a family friend since he was a small child, Davis who came to know him through MKG and Towns who signed with CAA upon turning pro last season.

As for then attending classes, here is an article about it after Knight made the same claim you did and then apologized Bob Knight apologizes to Kentucky for saying players did not attend class

If a player doesn't attend spring classes then if for whatever reason they don't go pro they wouldn't be eligible for the fall semester the following year. Here is another article...I love the title Calipari: 'Bitter old men' are wrong, players go to class

Call UK if you need further confirmation that the players are attending classes during the spring and fall.
