I think NKU got a "Gem". Initially, I thought he could go to a bigger program, but now I'm leaning that this is a good fit. Carson should make an impact immediately, will have a chance to play all four years.

Didn't NKU sign another very good Kentucky player, from Caverna? I haven't seen him play like I have Williams but I saw his name mentioned in another thread as a possible Mr Basketball candidate. If he's that good NKU has picked up two high quality players.

I'm never a huge fan of comparisons when you have a huge generational gap. Larry Bird would've loved to have some of the athleticism of today's players and the Williams kid (or anyone fore that matter) would love to have Bird's skill set.

 

I got to see Rex Chapman in high school as well and he was that kind of kid that you knew he was going to be a superstar. The Williams kid is really good, but once you put him in college with players as good or better, he's gonna get a rude awakening.

Let's not hold this against the kid. All he does is play. He doesn't make comparisons.

And there's the problem. What he/she/Wooden doesn't realize it does nothing but put a bad taste for the kid in everyone's mouth when that's silly. Not saying that's right, but it's the pattern of this board for as long as I've been on it. I can name player after player that has had a relative make it harder on them publicly for comments typed in promotion.

Well, that begs the question, did Xavier offer Larry Bird?

Really hard to compare kids now with kids from back in the day, we did not have HUDL, you tube, or any of that stuff. If we did that Fairdale team with Morris, Brown, and Turner would have been incredible. The dunk by Brown in the KOB was nastiest dunk I have ever witnessed, against the #2 team in the country at the time. WOW. What makes Carson fun to watch is what I have mentioned before, he plays really hard and is the best player.He leaves no doubt in your mind. I think he is Mr. Basketball and has proven that. He will have a good career at NKU and a chance to play oversea's or be drafted in my opinion.. I have told alot of people he is the best player the 8th region has had since Dontae Smith of Oldham County, who by the way was drafted in the first round in the NBA draft, and been named MVP in Europe so the ceiling is high for Carson. Does he have somethings to work on? Of course he does. But that is what makes great players great, they work. Watching Omar Pruitt from William and Mary another Ky boy, he also will have a chance at the next level to make money playing.

I was already super excited to watch Williams next year at NKU. Who knew I'd have an up close view of one of the all-time greats? :eek:

IF he had an offer from Xavier, I would think that distance from home was not a factor in his college decision. I am guessing that both NKU and X are about the same distance (+/- 5 miles) from Owenton.

I don't know how it is nowadays but when I was working in our school system we would have some players get letters/brochures from schools that there was no way they had the talent to play for. They were simply form letters that they probably sent out I suppose by the hundreds. Most had a questionnaire if the athlete was interested. Some kids would respond to them and occasionally would get a response or phone call, but the majority were never heard from again.

I always figured the colleges sent those out in mass in case some kid out there was a great talent that went below the radar and they could say to them, "Hey look, we were interested in you a long time ago before everyone else was. We sent you correspondence and we have the proof."

Oklahoma State and Miami Ohio was probably his top offers. I think he made a great choice in NKU.

Well along the theme of this thread title, Larry went to play for IU, one of the top 5 programs and coaches in college basketball at the time.
