Sp many things wrong with the Pro Bowl.

 

Nobody wants to hit anybody in the Pro Bowl, might be better if we just pinned flags on them.

 

No conference identity any more.

 

Of course, the biggest problem is the timing. Kinda like "reverse NASCAR". Season is over. The players are beat up and disinterested. And the players on the Super Bowl rosters - presumably some good ones - don't play.

 

Football skills competition doesn't do anything for me. Pass, punt and kick?

Not one second this year. Not as a matter of protest, I was just busy and honestly forgot about it. I have never watched it in its entirety.

Personally, I don't see why people get worked up about how "hard" they are playing. It is basically the equivalent of a backyard game. It means nothing except a few extra dollars to the winners. Let them have some fun. If they pull up when they attempt to make a tackle and you don't like it, vote for somebody else next year. Who cares about this game? It is a diversion to watch something resembling NFL football while the wife watches Grease Live in the other room. It's not a big deal.

I haven't watched a second of any pro bowl in the last decade. It doesn't exist to me.

I'd like to see the skills challenge on Saturday and then an NFC vs. AFC game on Sunday. Heck, I'd like to watch the two conference losers play in a '3rd place' game. Play it in HI Saturday night.

If I've watched the Pro Bowl in the last 20 years I don't remember doing so.

 

After I finished watching something on my DVR the Pro Bowl came on since the last channel I had my TV on was ESPN. I saw one play and assumed there had been a whistle I missed since the linemen didn't move and the running back didn't get tackled. Nope. It was a real play.

This is the NFL running an experiment showing just how far people will go to be associated with the event. "Hey, do you think we can sucker people into paying even if it's not real football? No. I mean as in what if we don't allow any tackling? Would people really pay for that?"

I think they exclude the fans right off the bat by having it in Hawaii every year. Why not move it from city to city and have a big All Star Weekend like the other sports? Have a NFL fan experience for the weekend with interactive events for the fans? We know baseball does a good job of that. I understand the owners and players. Why take a chance on getting hurt on a game that doesn't mean anything. My pick for the best all star event would be the NASCAR All Star race at Charlotte. They go all out because they don't race for points and the prize is BIG! Then again, that's a different kind of sport.

I know that's true. But it does exclude a lot of fans that might otherwise want to go. Keeping it in a warmer climate is a must, but still like to see it move around. Maybe they should just scrap the whole thing and see if people miss it over the next several years. Maybe that would forge a new approach toward it if there is still interest.

We have this thread annually. Until people stop watching, from a business stand point why would the NFL remove it? Goodell has made mention of ways to spice up the game, but it is difficult to do.

Anyone have the ratings for this year? I'm guessing it's way down.

The NFL did that a couple years ago in Miami and I think it was an attendance disaster.
