There is a big gun show here 5 or 6 times a year and I don't recall seeing any private sellers in the show...all are licensed dealers that do the paperwork and get checks as needed.

 

Maybe they are not attending or the fees are at a point where the individual sellers are not participating.

 

I bought my son's shotgun and deer rifle at the shows underneath Rupp Arena. Transaction went like this - "How much", "200 Cash. Kentucky resident?", "Yep".

 

Older son bought a Kalashnikov from a dealer at one of the shows. Full background check.

My kids couldn't get to my guns if they wanted to. Also, I'm not sure how many more guns this country's citizens own compared to other countries but I'm sure that skews the results a bit. Hunting accidents, etc I'm sure have an impact on the results as well.

 

I'm all for stiffer punishments for negligent parents that allow their kids to be in that position. Electronic guns I am completely against. Proper gun safety goes a long way in preventing gun accidents.

I suspect that the percentage is significant.

 

It is the vast majority. In fact mental illness is more common in mass shootings than any single type of gun such as AR, Pistols etc..

 

I don't dispute that the majority of mass shootings are perpetrated by the mentally ill. I do believe that the percentage of mentally ill people doing this sort of thing is quite small and probably negligible, less than 1%. I think it is wrong to "criminalize" all mentally ill people for the actions of an underwhelming minority. Especially because the effect of putting them on a list will cause many not to seek treatment for fear of being stigmatized.

 

What percentage of people who were raised in a home without a father end up being the perpetrators of gun violence? I'll bet that percentage is higher than the percentage of mentally ill people who are mass shooters. Does this mean we should exclude from purchasing guns those people who did not have a father in the home during their formative years? That's bad policy.

 

So is automatically putting people on the list because they have been diagnosed with some form of mental illness. Not to mention the violation of HIPPA and the total destruction of doctor-patient confidentiality. This is BAD policy! And it is rooted in fear-mongering, not objective data.

Don't require everyone to do it. A single man living alone ought to be able to have a wheel gun on the shelf of his night stand ready for self-defense... and so should any other adult. Big brother, get out of my house!

no, those are not moral equivalents. guns are not illegal, for one thing. Kids sometimes drink other poisonous substances and die. That is not murder. It is an accident. Maybe some type of negligence or something for parents who don't make it difficult to get to the gun or the poison. The current laws are sufficient.

No more abortion = no more rapes, incest, or mothers' lives in dangers. If so strike the word and practice this second!!!

I would be willing to bet that a VERY small percentage of abortions are due to any of the things you mentioned. Abortion has been used as a means of birth control for most.

You can't expect anything differently from our progressive statist friends on here and liberals across the country. The greatest threat to them is a free thinking and independent populous.
