Flawed system that needs some work if Ted or any other undeserving was on it, but every time something is brought about changes the pro gun gets its panties in a wad and stubs up.

And most of that comes from that we pay to work on this stuff: Congress.

 

It would be a pretty serious mistake to take away someone's constitutional rights based on a questionable list (terrorist no fly list). Who makes the list up? How do you get on it? And how do you get off of it once your name is placed on it? It's a questionable practice and should not be used to deny one's constitutional rights.

Imagine how big a faux pas it would be if a person suspected of terrorism used their constitutional right to murder other people.

 

If I'm on the no fly list and there is no reason for me to be on there I will find a way to get my name off. Most Americans will do the same.

Background checks for guns bought from dealers online and at gun shows. If you are buying from a dealer they are already performing background checks, nothing new there

 

Who's a dealer is the issue! I would prefer all gun sales but this is a start.

If I sell an old shot gun to my neighbor am I a dealer? The only sales that I know of without background checks are private sales from non-firearms dealers.

Dylan Roof's background check was completed and there was nothing on it, expanding the hours of checks to 24/7 wouldn't have caught anything else. It is all computerized and one agent does the check when they are called in...having 3 or 4 more on duty doing the same thing wouldn't have changed anything.

Often in any organization workers do not do all of their job because they are overworked. More agents may ease the strain. Yes, that couldn't hurt. But more agents could have been added at anytime, this was just thrown in for publicity sake

very interested to see where this one ends up. More so because this is where pro gun differs within its own ranks. This is the slipperiest of slopes, if handled correctly it is a great step in the right direction...but there is a great chance of over reach and abuse of the system.

 

-- ATF is finalizing a rule to ensure that dealers who ship firearms notify law enforcement if their guns are lost or stolen in transit. Didn't know it was optional to not report missing Firearms :lol2: Dealing with Firearms, Records and the ATF for years...not telling the ATF you have a missing Firearm isn't an option. You can have license revoked or suspended on the spot if an ATF investigator finds that you have a firearm missing without documentation. This again is much to do about nothing, unless there is more to it.

Got a lot of dumb users need smarter guns. What happens if my wife, son or daughter needs to use my gun to protect themselves and it won't fire.

I watched one on CNN just last night and they interviewed 4 guys walking around trying to sell their guns. All they asked for was a photo ID and one said he trusted his gut when selling the gun.

 

One licensed dealer interviewed said he supported all background checks.

Guns that can only be fired by their owner using finger print or electronic tech to disable them.

 

That's just what you want, a complicated tool with built in systems that are bound to fail a certain unacceptable percentage of the time just when your life may depend on it.

 

I'll stick with an old fashioned wheel gun loaded and ready to fire when I squeeze the trigger.

Do you want to give the mentally ill an incentive to NOT go in for the help they need? Tell them they will wind up on some list that makes their illness known to others outside the health care field. Unintended consequences of policies are often worse than the problems they are trying to address.

I think all dealers support background checks...keeps them from being put in a bad spot by bad people.

It is the vast majority. In fact mental illness is more common in mass shootings than any single type of gun such as AR, Pistols etc..

1. Yes, electronics are bound to fail at some point. I don't care how much testing is done or how well they're built. If an armed criminal breaks into my home and my electronic gun won't fire am I supposed to ask them if they can wait a minute while I change the batteries?

 

2. While my wife has her own gun, no one should have to buy a gun for everyone living in their houshold in case they are not home in the event one is needed.

 

3. Who is paying for this technology? If gun manufacturers have to foot the bill, you better believe the price of firearms will skyrocket. Which makes one wonder if this part of the proposal is not actually a way to cause gun sales to drop, due to the price increase. Obama knows he will never be able to ban any specific weapons in his time, so this could certainly be his way of reducing the overall number of guns sold.

My kids couldn't get to my guns if they wanted to. Also, I'm not sure how many more guns this country's citizens own compared to other countries but I'm sure that skews the results a bit. Hunting accidents, etc I'm sure have an impact on the results as well.

 

I'm all for stiffer punishments for negligent parents that allow their kids to be in that position. Electronic guns I am completely against. Proper gun safety goes a long way in preventing gun accidents.
