The only leverage the Reds have in this is to tell Brandon, accept the deal or don't report to spring training. You are not going to play on this team next year and there is no reason for you to be in camp. If the player's association makes a fuss, then tell him he can come to camp but he is not playing. The Reds position is they are playing for the future and BP is not part of the future.

I've had my issues/ideas about BP, but one has to admit he's had a few good years for the Reds. And if the Reds needed to pick up a decent free agent in the future for a playoff run, I'm not sure this is the precedent you want to start for a guy that's been pretty good. Just my opinion.

There could be many reasons why he doesn't want to play in Washington. If that is the case and they don't want to give additional compensation to waive that right, I do the same thing he is doing. Everyone that reads this would do the exact same thing.

Looks like the Nationals are moving on without Phillips. I hope the Reds bench him and he doesn't get 100 AB's next year.
