December 19, 201510 yr Just proves Phillips is all about Phillips and cares nothing about winning. If he doesn't agree to a trade, I just sit him on the bench and let him watch Peraza develop. In this instance it is about him. He has earned that right.
December 19, 201510 yr In this instance it is about him. He has earned that right. And proves he cares nothing about winning.
December 19, 201510 yr The only leverage the Reds have in this is to tell Brandon, accept the deal or don't report to spring training. You are not going to play on this team next year and there is no reason for you to be in camp. If the player's association makes a fuss, then tell him he can come to camp but he is not playing. The Reds position is they are playing for the future and BP is not part of the future.

The Reds position is they are playing for the future and BP is not part of the future. I've had my issues/ideas about BP, but one has to admit he's had a few good years for the Reds. And if the Reds needed to pick up a decent free agent in the future for a playoff run, I'm not sure this is the precedent you want to start for a guy that's been pretty good. Just my opinion.
December 19, 201510 yr Author Not looking good for the trade BP loves him some BP, so not shocking that he's dragging this out.
December 19, 201510 yr A player earns the right to veto a trade. I have no issue with BP looking out for BP.
December 19, 201510 yr There could be many reasons why he doesn't want to play in Washington. If that is the case and they don't want to give additional compensation to waive that right, I do the same thing he is doing. Everyone that reads this would do the exact same thing.
December 19, 201510 yr Looks like the Nationals are moving on without Phillips. I hope the Reds bench him and he doesn't get 100 AB's next year.
December 19, 201510 yr He did earn the right to veto trade and I don't mind him looking out for himself. But from a baseball standpoint what does he have to gain from this? I don't understand why he wouldn't want to be on a contender
December 19, 201510 yr Some really intelligent baseball fans in here being pretty and childish and saying just ridiculous things about this. Get a grip. He's earned his 10&5 rights and I applaud him for exercising that right. I would do the same thing. His family comes above winning.
December 19, 201510 yr I feel bad for the beer vendors this year. People might have to get drunker to watch this team!
December 20, 201510 yr I don't care who you are, in the end the only one you can count on or look out for is you and yours. I'm thinking we all would do the same if we were lucky enough to be a major leaguer in this spot, especially one that has been around a while.

If I'm Reds management I still bench him though, and play the guy we traded for.
