This is the time to hop on the bandwagon. The Reds are no longer a sinking ship, they actually have a direction they are going.And I think it's something fans should get behind

I'd Mike Brown him and make him play out his contract if he asked me for additional $$ to allow a trade to a team that could be in the WS next year. He is the 4th highest paid 2nd baseman in baseball behind Cano, Kinsler and Pedroia. Enough is enough with these greedy players.

Based on this past year, Phillips had a better year than Pedroia and comparable to Cano. I don't blame him at all for cashing in any way he can because he will never have another year as good as the one he just had.

He doesn't have a no trade clause in his contract. He has 10/5 rights.

whatever it is, pay him.

 

I will say this about BP, it was a pleasure watching him play defense. No metric on the web can convince me he wasn't the best defensive 2B in the league. He made plays other guys can't.

 

Now I'm ready for him to don another jersey.

Seems fair to me. He has earned the 10/5 rights. He wants compensation for money that would be owed at the end of the contract since he basically took less to resign with the Reds. They want to move him, they have to pay fair compensation for something he has earned.

He deferred a lot of money in his contract. No issue with him wanting them to give him a piece of that deferred money to waive the no-trade...

I can't disagree with you here. I loved how hard he played and he played every day but he was making a nice salary here and don't try to squeeze the lemon dry because they ask to trade you. I just think that it's never enough for these guys. Go play hard and get an extension when your contract's up.

Perhaps, but I really wonder who among us would do anything differently? I'd say none. Limited opportunity to be paid in this game, I say smart business to get what you can when you have the ability. In 10 years no one will even wonder about BP.

Like I said I loved the way Phillips played and would love to see him stay in Cincinnati but not at what he will earn the next 2 years, $13m and $14m. I also can't see where the Reds deferred any money in him signing that 2012 contract at the age of 31. They exercised an option for 2102 at $12.5m and gave him a new 6 year contract for $72.5m. By the end of that contract he will have earned almost $100m. I hardly think that anyone else was going to give him more money than that back in 2012. If he thought so he probably would not have signed it. I wish him well and hope he can play in a WS, he does deserve that by his work attitude alone.
