December 16, 201510 yr From every report I've seen, he isn't sick at all. Was just doing what he had to do to give his longtime assistant a chance to coach. And I have no problem with that move at all.
December 16, 201510 yr Or like I mentioned above, he was looking out for his assistant coach. Bo Ryan and Barry Alvarez Feuding About the Next Badgers Basketball Coach? | The Big Lead Which I still think it's a crappy move. It's not Bo Ryan's decision to make.
December 16, 201510 yr If you scroll over to the end (6:10 mark), you'll hear the Wisconsin SID with the old "frog" in his throat. Ryan couldn't help but smile. I was cutting my camera off at the moment it happened but Ryan was like, "are you gonna make it?!? I know it's cold but damn!" and everyone busted out laughing.
December 16, 201510 yr Which I still think it's a crappy move. It's not Bo Ryan's decision to make. It's his decision to decide when to hang it up, and I love his loyalty to his assistant. He did everything he could to give him the best possibility to take over what Ryan had built.
December 16, 201510 yr Does this mean that Wisconsin is no longer gonna be impossible to beat at the Kohl Center?
December 16, 201510 yr I was under the impression he intended to retire after last season and the lead assistant would become head coach. Then his lead assistant's father became very ill with cancer (maybe even passed away) so Ryan stayed on. Now the assistant is taking over. It basically appears to be a delayed takeover that everyone (probably even players) knew was coming.
December 16, 201510 yr It's his decision to decide when to hang it up, and I love his loyalty to his assistant. He did everything he could to give him the best possibility to take over what Ryan had built. It is his decision. I however don't care for it. If you commit to coaching a season, you should coach that season and not turn it into some power play to get "your guy" into the head coaching spot. Nice of him to be loyal his guy but as a UK fan, I wouldn't be thrilled at all if Coach Cal did that to us and UK had to put Payne, Robic, or Barbee in charge for 80% of the season. I'd much rather it go down in enough time for the Athletic Department to find a top quality replacement to help carry the program on. In my opinion it's a very selfish thing to do, as well as disrespectful to everyone but that assistant. *I take all this back if we find out Bo Ryan had health concerns.
December 16, 201510 yr Does this mean that Wisconsin is no longer gonna be impossible to beat at the Kohl Center? They lost 3 there this year already, including games to Western Ill & Milwaukee. Not sure impossible is the right word.
December 16, 201510 yr It's his decision to decide when to hang it up, and I love his loyalty to his assistant. He did everything he could to give him the best possibility to take over what Ryan had built. He did everything he could, and failed at securing the job for his assistant. So in the ultimate "take my ball and go home" move, Ryan sabotaged the season/program. Loyalty is a wonderful thing, but this became more about ego I feel.
December 16, 201510 yr They lost 3 there this year already, including games to Western Ill & Milwaukee. Not sure impossible is the right word. I haven't payed much attention to this year. It just seems like in years past, they were almost impossible to defeat at home.
December 16, 201510 yr I think Ryan has done a great job there. Beating KY last year just cemented what I thought about his skills as a coach and putting his team in a position to beat the Cats. That said, I didn't care for his attitude in the post game after they lost to Duke. He never said anything about "one and done" or "rent a player" when they beat KY but he cried about it when they lost to Duke. Majerus did something similar after his 2,000th loss to KY in the '98 Title Game. He cried about having kids who didn't have a McDonald's let alone McDonald's AA on their team. Didn't cry about it when they beat Arizona and UNC to get to the title game. Good Luck to Ryan.
December 16, 201510 yr Author I think his move is as weak as Spurrier's and just like Spurrier it seems he'll get a pass for it. If he's sick then fine. If he's not sick then I don't have much respect for his decision. Mid season and just quits? That's wack. Shameful.

Gotcha. :lol2: :lol2:
