If this team was so talent deficient then why with the game in the balance and your season on the line are your best players not on the field whether it be on both sides of the ball or on special teams?

Ok I'll play your game, in the last 8 years the birds have made it to the finals. You seem to think that the coaches didn't play the best players to win this game but you have been saying all year that this team had just as much talent as in the past. So the coaches did that on purpose to loose the game? I'm very proud of this team for not giving up when it would have been easy to do! Sometimes the other team just has more talent and this year happens to be one. The seniors had a great career and they should be proud of that and all they've accomplished!

Here's the fake/botched punt; this was really a turning point in the game. Momentum had just shifted and this happened. Then Pulaski just rolled.

What in sam heck are you talking about? Not playing some game and certainly not hiding behind any keyboard either. Never said coaches did anything to try and lose this game or any other for that matter. I will let someone else address the elephant in the room if they so choose.

 

As for having your best on the field when it really mattered most, I will say that no they did not until it was too late. Bo Hebel should have been used when they still had a 10 point lead as it was pretty obvious that his bulk and athleticism were needed. Also not sure why my son spent so much time on the sideline in the second half until Pulaski started making a run. Realize that he was banged up a little from being roughed earlier in the game, but there seemed to be no problem getting him in there when their backs were against the wall.

 

As for your freelancing comment, not exactly sure what you are trying to imply there.

I've been thinking about this game lately and I do wonder how much of the roughing the kicker in the 2nd quarter affected Dougherty, cause he was limping the rest of the game

I can see why so many people dislike HHS(some fans). Don't blame the coaches because they didn't play iron man football the whole second half (Because that would be smart against a team that runs a platoon system) highlands has always ran a platoon system and has been pretty good with it. Don't pick out plays that changed the game. Yes this highlands team had talented players on it but just accept that PC was more talented and it had nothing to do with play calling, refs, or your kid. Be glad they went to the state simi-finals after starting 1-5. And just remember Trinity didn't make it this year either. 23 all.

You mentioned the special teams, at the game there was a group of guys having fun joking about the special club you had to be apart of to be on the kicking team. The club was for under 5 ft 10 in and under 160 lbs. They were not to far off, that was a very tiny kickoff team and the coverage was lackluster on the very few times this year the kickoff did go into the endzone. Thankfully he kicked most into endzone. Is that really the best they had for special teams? Did he just expect the kick to go to endzone and not worry about the coverage?

Highlands fans are just under a microscope when they lose. All fans blame coaches, players and such when their team loses. Pulaski was the better team, but not by much at all. Highlands just couldn't counter Pulaski's adjustments. And that is hard to do when the other team has figured out a way to take advantage of you.

 

In hindsight you say, "We should've mixed up more in the second half." If the 'birds would have done that and still lost people would say, "Should have given it to Kendal every play". Cant win as a coach.

You play to win the game and if that means you ask your best players to be iron men.. so be it.

 

Bo Hebel should've been on that DL earlier in the 2nd half. Does anybody out there in BGP land disagree? Speak now. Especially after they started gashing the middle. Insert Hebel and the bleeding stopped. Those boys played their last HS game, period. You leave it all on the field......see #44 for PC.

 

As far as Pulaski Co being more talented, maybe as they did have some very good players. That is debatable but the most talented teams don't always win the game.

More tentative. Less sure of himself in pressure situations. Very good athlete, and physically he is just what you're looking for at the position, but the intangibles add up. I think he was the kind of QB that needs a dominating running game to allow him to shine. Highlands had a more balanced attack that depended on him more than he was truly capable of delivering against quality opponents. Friday was not his fault. He played well, as good as could be expected, and likely good enough to win had a couple of key plays worked out. Pulaski was very good and won a game that reminded me of the Highlands-Owensboro final last year. Congrats to them and best of luck in BG.

We were comparing Riley Hall to Beau Hoge from last year.

 

I think Hergott played well enough to give HHS a chance to win...I don't see that he is a D1 QB, but I wish him the best at Central Michigan.
