I said at beginning of season that Highlands would beat Pulaski by 1 or 2 TDs. After first half I thought I was spot on. Impressive win Pulaski. Looking forward to next week...

I also thought when the Birds recovered the fumble in PC territory after they ran a few yards for the first down, the first play should've been a shot at the endzone. Go for the juggler! Credit the PC defense though, they stepped up in the 2nd half holding the Birds to 3 points outscoring them 27-3.

 

If JD saw something on the fake punt then I'll give him that, he's converted those before. I just thought it was a huge momentum killer. At that point they were already gashing so even of they pinned em back they likely would've drove the extra yardage. Sometimes you have to simply try and outscore the other team if you can't stop them.

 

Take nothing away from those boys especially the SR"s. They were 4 min away from a State Championship game after starting off 1-5 and getting labeled as a bad football team. They showed the last 5 games they belonged in that semifinal.

 

IMO that was the game right there, Highlands couldn't regain any momentum after that play. I don't fault the kid for trying it, listening on the radio I half expected it...so I'm sure Pulaski did too. Pulaski may have driven the extra yards if he had punted it but driving an extra 30 or so yards gives more chances for mistakes too.

Tough year for the Birds comes to an end. Hopefully, BW has a game plan for the future.

#8 for PC had an incredible game for PC. PC has gamers man.

 

This kid was a treat to watch.

Never dreamed PC would line up and smash Highlands in the 2nd half the way they did. Even with playing a lineman both ways, PC was able to wear down the line of Highlands. There were a lot of tongues dragging late in the 3rd, into the 4th qtr. This was the 1st home playoff loss for Highlands since 2005, 31 games! These Maroons just will not lose! They don't allow that scenario to play out. They fight and fight! What a fun team to watch!!

Why were Highlands One Way players getting wore against a Pulaski team with several players going both ways. Pulaski's Two Way players seemed to get stronger as the game went on.

 

Who said Highlands one way players were getting wore? It was like watching the Ryle game earlier in the year where a team ran the same play over and over and over again with zero adjustments made until it was too late.

For those that saw Pulaski today, I know a lot of you expected the Birds to beat them...what if anything surprised you about the Maroons.

Problem was that he should have done it on the first punt when everyone turned and ran downfield without checking on the punter. On this particular punt, if he had run toward his bench it was a first down. Simply picked the wrong side and the wrong time.

Posters complaining about Defense not getting enough of a chance to rest due to short offensive possessions in post #35. I was wondering why they were getting any more tired than the Pulaski kids that went both way and rarely came off of the field.

 

Another poster complained that the best players weren't on the field due to the platoon system and that it was an advantage for Pulaski especially up front with better linemen playing both ways.

Some of the posts on here simply crack me up. If I did not know better, one would think Highlands was 'dominated' in this game. Could not be farther from the truth. Fact is this "bad Highlands team" according to some rose to the challenge and gave this prohibitive favorite a game for 48 minutes. Remember that just a few short weeks ago, many of the supposed Bluebird faithful were kicking dirt on the casket of this team. The coaches made some changes and the kids accepted the challenge of getting things headed back in the right direction. They closed out the year strong and certainly have nothing to hang their heads about because according to many of the great prognosticators throughout the state they were supposed to get beat and have a running clock put on them.

 

Proud of these kids and especially the seniors for having the intestinal fortitude to take on the many challenges that occurred throughout the year. Many played their last football game today and others I am sure have aspirations of playing in college.

 

The sun will come up in the East tomorrow and life will move on. This is simply one loss and if it does not kill you it will make you stronger. This group was a part of 2 state champ teams and a runner up and that is more than a lot of kids can say.

Worse is a rather strong word. Just said that he was not on the same level as Beau Hoge was last year for Highlands and I think many that actually have been able to see both play would agree with me 100%.

Couple of things:

1. I told y'a so...I maintained all last year and thoughout this year that Highlands atrocious defense had been masked by a great offense...and that this Highlands offense was far from great. Hughlands literally cannot play D against teams with a pulse.

2. A lot of people said Highlands got better as the season went along? Do you really feel that way or did they just start playing really bad teams?

PC'S coaches did a great job of exploiting matchup on offense.
