Highlands path to the Final Four may be the worst in history...they have beaten a:

3-7 team in the 1st round

3-8 team in the 2nd round

and a 5-7 team in the 3rd round

 

The mighty and "rolling" Blue Birds have wins this season against teams with the following records: 1-10, 3-8 (twice), 5-7 (twice), 4-7, 0-11, and 3-8...they have yet to beat a team with even a winning record...I have a hard time considering a team with that resume a "favorite" against the defending state champ.

 

Pulaski's playoff run does leave a bit to be desired as well...they have beaten a:

Game time at 3?

I don't like the 3pm start time. It could of been around 5 and been okay. What time would the Pulaski kids have to leave to get to Highlands? Maybe around 9 or 10?

So, I asked a few pages back: How many players from each team play on both sides of the football. Highlands typically has an advantage in that regard. Is it the same this year? Does Pulaski play a bunch of players both ways? Will some Highlands and Pulaski fans fill us in?

Highlands has dabbled in playing some kids both ways mid season, but has gone back to two platoon system. They really just made some personnel adjustments. Seems to be working fine now. IMO, there are still situations where I think the defense and offense could use some help, but you what, I'm not making the calls.

No doubt Highlands started slow but they really seem to be hitting full stride at the right time. I don't think the Birds will be favored in this game but you never know what can happen playing at HHS, it's a tough place to come in a get a win. Go Birds!

Just how ready to play will the PC team be after eating a big Turkey Day dinner, getting up early Friday morning then enduring a 4+ hour bus ride? Their inner clocks and equilibrium may be just a tad off by the time the bus pulls into Fort Thomas. Even worse for those who may be susceptible to motion sickness or lethargy after long drives. I guess we will get those answers if a few days.

I have to go with Pulaski here. Although I have deep respect for Highlands (and have followed them for years), I just don't think they have the team strength and speed this year to match up with Pulaski.

2. I'd think it is only about a two and half to three hour trip. Maybe three and a half hours tops. Somerset is about 45 minutes away from me and Ft. Thomas isn't two hours from my house.

One huge Advantage that Highlands almost always has is that when a team plays them, they are the best team that team has played all year. It gives Highlands confidence and unnerves the other team in many cases. This season Highlands doesn't have that advantage as Pulaski has played at least one team that was much better (Scott Co) another one with better athletes (Henry Clay). Most teams come into a game against Highlands having to adjust to the speed of the game that they haven't seen before, that won't be the case this year.

 

Highlands could win this game and many would not be surprised nor should they Highlands is and has been the Gold Standard for Football in Kentucky...but don't be surprised if Pulaski doesn't win and maybe wins easily.

I don't drive a bus but it seems that it used to take 2.5 hours for us to get to Somerset when we would visit Cumberland Lake. Not a bad drive at all and with the excitement going it will seem like nothing to them.

Am considering the 5A Double on Friday! Would be cutting it VERY Close to maybe not make kickoff at BG if I did it.

 

My question to Highland fans is what time should I get there to get a decent seat and where is the best place to park so I can hit the road quick? Much appreciated!!!

 

I'm not picking a winner to this one. I think Pulaski is the Champ, so they are the favorite, but the games in Ft Thomas and H is playing CLEARLY better now, so who knows!

I drive that way a couple of times a year going through Cincy to Indiana...I make it very easily in under 3 hours (but I may speed a bit)...bus would probably be right at 3 hours for the trip.
