McPeek is in kentucky for a few days. Wonder if we will see him in Mt sterling for an interview

 

You'll see him interviewing for most of the openings in Kentucky I'd guess.

Montgomery interviews are happening during next few days though.

It's bad that it's necessary but effort today will hopefully lead to better results and less work in the future. You can mold the younger programs in your vision and groom someone to be in charge. In our area there aren't a lot of people willing to do JFL that don't have kids in it.

 

Choice between a different dad doing it every year and a coach, I'm taking a coach every time.

 

We're lucky. All of our coaches are WC grads and aren't going anywhere. What's a little more work to some is maintenance for our group. Without our HS guys maintaining youth football over the years, we wouldn't have youth football or maybe even varsity football.

 

Maybe it's not ideal, but it's necessary for our program. What I contribute in my time to JFL, does not take away from my game preparation as a defensive coach. Each coach we have has pulled double duty helping in some aspect of the younger leagues, even our HC.

Again, nobody can question your passion.

 

....Or hanging out with their wife and/or kids. Either one would make sense on Saturdays.

 

....so, Maybe film early Saturday morn, then a UK tailgate and game with the family that afternoon.

 

...little girl's cheerleading competition (s) two hours away that goes from 8am-5pm.

 

Heaven forbid maybe bow hunt come September. High school football coaches that enjoy other things than football from August-December?!

 

How dare they!! (insert sarcasm)

 

Maybe spend Labor Day Saturday on a dove hunt? Blasphemy.

 

Or on the lake that Saturday and the rest of the Saturday's in September with their fams?

 

"Dont you know you have to beat so and so county next week for your life's worth to be anything?" (Insert sarcasm, again)

 

 

These guys make 2K-8K

 

...not 200K-800K.

I know so these guys shouldn't have to be running the jr pro league. I would beat if you look outside of our hoops state(we don't hardly produce a D1 hoopster) into football states I would bet that the high school coaches aren't over running the jr pro league on Saturdays.

And I will say this Harry as a coach no matter what you make you owe it to your football team to work hard for them. And believe me I agree coaches in this state don't make near what they should BUT if you are doing a job then do it to the best of your ability no matter how much you make. Dang I sound like my dad.

It's not about working hard it's about working smart. Some people think if you aren't in the coaching office sat and Sunday for hours then you're not working. Coaching has changed a HUGE amount just in the past 10 years. With things like Hudl and the such a lot of work can now be done outside the office. There have been all kinds of advances that allow coaches to game plan faster and communicate to players and coaches faster and easier. If people aren't familiar with this then they might be surprised. They also might be surprised how much practice it self has changed sense they played or coached if they have been out of it for a bit.

Men, I had the opportunity to visit some former coaches from the state of Kentucky in Georgia last weekend. It is time that with the Kentucky Football Coaches Association/Kentucky High School Athletic Association/and by all means AD's, Principals and Superintendents, have a meeting on how to improve coaching situations in our State. Many of them said they had left because of pay, but a lot was about having certified help on the staff that worked within this school district. Maybe beating a dead horse, but the only way it is going to improve is for the entire group working together. It is not a coincidence that we are having 30 - 40 new Head Coaching vacancies each year. I know of a position at this time that is a good position and a great place to live, but the money and teaching situation are horrible so they are not getting any applications. As I have seen many of my friends get out over the last few years it is troubling, but the story is the same, no money, little help and or support, teach a full load of classes, and no family time. The making of 3 cents an hour by most has run its course. I would hope that Jimmy Reed could put a well respected group together to move this forward.

I agree with you on this but unfortunately here in Ky even when you can get a certified coach hired it is very tough to find someone that will fill the teaching spot and also coach. It seems we are very limited in the certified coach applicant pool.

I've heard that their are two current head coaches (Powell County Brandon Brewer), (Boyd County Coach), a coach from out of state and an Montgomery County assistant that are interviewing for the Montgomery County job.

Montgomery isn't in any hurry about hiring a coach. Cancelled interview today for second time. May be that coach isn't a serious applicant. Don't seem like they are putting much effort in getting someone hired. Looks like spring practice won't be much if any at all.
