Not getting in the recruiting business but I will say if he had a player that was ruled ineligible by KHSAA, him and the AD both knew about it, they had to have known he was ineligible because the paperwork goes straight to the AD/School.

 

The only way he could have not known is if the paperwork didn't show up and he thought the player was cleared and played him, that would be on KHSAA's fault...I think I'll go with option 1...

If people only knew how many kids a year play a game or two (including all sports) before a school realizes they are ineligible...it would shock folks. Keep in mind that the KHSAA works on a self report policy. Grade reports come out weekly and if a kid doesnt meet eligibility requirements then they are ineligible. You honestly wouldn't believe how many times it happens and schools don't report it. So with that said, if the only issue is that he played an ineligible player, then I am fine with the hire...he does it again then that's habitual and deserves a stern punishment. It's not like he was out buying prostitutes and snorting coke at an underage party...McPeek should be forgiven. Everyone should get a second chance.

Interesting development in the Bullitt East job. Daniel McDonald just hired on at Bullitt East as an English teacher. He was at Waggner.

Daniel McDonald was a HC for Waggner in around 2010 or 2011. He was the QB for Willie Foster when Foster was the HC at Waggner. I believe McDonald`s last job was at Seneca as the offensive coordinator.

If that is true, then I wish him and Bell County the best. Speaking as a fan of football in Eastern Kentucky, we need the Bell Counties and Breathitt Counties and the like to be strong. I pray he runs a clean program and is the type of leader and coach that Bell County needs to get through what everyone expects to be some lean times.

 

We don't always get 2nd chances in life, I hope he makes the absolute best of it and redeems himself.

It was stated that he got in trouble for recruiting and played a player that turned out ineligible. What else did HE do? Notice I said HE...not his Uncle...but him specifically? Tons of schools have broken the rules and we give so many of those coaches a pass, why is McPeek different? Please...by all means, cast some stones. How is what happened there much different than what happened at Highlands with the Mitchell kid (SP?). Yet Dale wasnt sent to misfit island. LCA was corrupt in several sports, yet we gave them and their coaches a pass. Heck I would say Fairview was the 2nd most corrupt behind LCA...but hey, good Christian folk get a pass (I say that in jest). LOL Funny how we pick and choose though.

No clue what sports were involved, and I'd bet that the coaches didn't know who was writing checks (here is hoping and guessing anyway). I had forgotten all about these stories (talks about LexCath being fined 30+K at the end).

 

I know Nathan McPeek very well. He might be one of the most genuine, soft spoken and humble individuals I've ever met, and especially in the coaching profession. He was also a very accomplished student-athlete at Russell IND and Marshall University.

 

It's hard to find humble people in this world, let alone those as decorated as he from his past and ultra successful high school and D1 college career.

 

I personally wish him nothing, but the best and am proud to say so. Whether he was involved or not (in my heart of hearts I don't think he had any clue and was just going with what those above him were saying all is 'OK' on; trusting them, as I know most all coaches would do), but as @Watusi said...we all deserve 2nd chances.

 

.....people all over the world who have either committed or been accused of far, far, farrrrr worse have.
