From 2004 to 2015 he won 3 regional championships and brought much recognition to the Falcon Program. Good luck Coach Petett.

TOMPKINSVILLE — John Petett, the winningest football coach in Monroe County High School history, announced Monday he will not return for the 2016 season. After 21 years of coaching the Falcons, Petett has decided to step down.

“You know, I have been doing this for over 20 years,” said Petett, who finishes his career with 84 wins. “And as a coach there comes a time when you just feel like you've done all you can do with the program, you've given everything you have to give.

“I took a lot of things into consideration before making this decision. I sat down and talked with my family and I just feel it is the right time for me to enjoy watching my sons play as a father and enjoy them, instead of watching them as a coach and critiquing them.”

 

Petett's oldest son, Curtis, will be a freshman next year and Jameson will be a fifth-grader.

 

Petett, a former Falcon football standout, began his coaching career in 1995 at Monroe County Middle School. He then served as an assistant coach at the high school for eight years under head coaches Fred Harbison and John Myers.

He became head coach of the Falcons in 2004 and immediately began to put his mark on the football program. Petett went 3-7 his first season before producing back-to-back 7-4 campaigns, including a district title in 2006.

After a 2-9 slate in 2007, Petett guided the Falcons to a five-year run of 48 wins. During that stretch, the Falcons won two district titles, three regional titles and a regional runner-up crown. Monroe County won 17 games over the last three campaigns, including a 7-5 mark and a district title in 2015.

Petett has been named coach of the year by the Associated Press and the Kentucky Football Coaches Association. He has also been part of the coaching staff for four all-star games, including head coach of the 2013 Best of the Bluegrass Game.

“I have been blessed to be able to coach at Monroe County High School and I am still going to be active around here. I am still going to serve as co-athletic director and do whatever I can to help,” Petett said. “I just need to recharge my batteries.”

I agree, I need to get off the garbage site. Had a great source confirm that it won't be Bert Brown, even though I feel he is a heck of a coach and one that Bell would be lucky to have.

Interesting development in the Bullitt East job. Daniel McDonald just hired on at Bullitt East as an English teacher. He was at Waggner.
