Central has always fared well. They had 9-10-11 wins a season prior to Ty, keep in mind that most of the 90's ALL Louisville schools played 4A regardless of size. They were in the Region finals quite a few times prior to Ty only to run into Boyle who had a few good ball players if I recall. Some down years too, but reclassification REALLY helped them, we can't say it didn't. Not to take ANYTHING away from what they have accomplished at all. Ty took them to the next level with a better lay of the land.

Prior to Scroggins, they won two regional titles (1995, 2006) and lost in two regional finals (2001, 2004).

 

They did have some good teams, and I know they played in the largest class often, although they dropped in 1999 when Jefferson County no longer all played AAAA. But other than that '95 team (who beat Iroquois [3-8], Doss [9-3], and Ballard [7-6] to win the region before getting routed by Henry Clay), they were never a threat in AAAA.

 

As for realignment being good to them, you are exactly right.
