How much did Tony Saylor retiring play a part? Wasn't he there as long as Larkey was?

 

Not sure how long Coach Saylor stayed. I think about 3 years. Coach Saylor is still at games on the hill by locker room. I think he is retired from teaching now, not sure.

When Coach Larkey went to Harlan Co, his son Chris who coached there for a lot of years went to be HC at North Laurel.

So we lost 3 coaches that had been there for 20+ yrs.

That is tough for any program.

Team speed isn't the issue we haven't played a team all season that Lovell McClure or Rowe couldn't out run. Team speed isn't 3 people, its the entire group. Lovell has broke big TD runs all year an no one caught him. We were expected to win at least 7-8 games expected by who, you? only exception would have been 5A Pulaski (should win 5A championship) 2A Danville (Should win 2A championship) we have lost to teams we should have beaten Garrad county ( had the chance to win but lost 20-8.. Had 3-4 possession stall including 2 inside 5 yard line an one other fumbled in red zone) I bet you wouldn't have let that fumble happen Somerset 21-20 loss had TD fumbled in end zone including 4 other Turnovers.. Dang, I bet Parkey told them to turn it over Poor playing calling..you do great on Madden calling plays why can't he be as good as you? Wayne county 21-13 loss poor play calling and once again turn overs not to mention Lovell did not play second half used running backs that normally do t even run the ball and QB went out in 4th..Parkey should tell those boys they cant get hurt or have turnovers, why isn't he telling them? Knox Central down 20-13 @ half then let poor play calling including a 4th an 1 with 8 minute left only to punt..I would have went for it, I go for it on Madden all the time and it works. The moral of what is wrong with Rockcastle football is that when Tom Larkey left everything has not even been half the same. 1 decent winning season of 9-3 an the rest have been horribly bad. Change is needed @ The Rock and everyone in the county knows where that change needs to start at and has known for quiet a while but for some be known reason it doesn't appear it will and that is really a disappointment for the players .. Players parents .. And the fans..I live through my kids and my team and you are embarassing me so i'm going to point some fingers.

 

Every program in the nation has a guy like this. It's sad really, coaches are only as good as their kids, when Parkey has talent he wins, when he don't have it the wins are limited, same as any coach in the state.

You can call me out all you want all you have to do is go to one game an listen to the fans screaming at Parkey for poor decisions. This same group of boys would have a winning season with almost any other coach. Chris larkey..tony saylor.. Adam Coleman etc the year tony saylor retired he was in coach Parkey face screaming at him 80% of the season right in front of everyone .. coach Parkey may be a good person but good people don't make good coaches. Even had one really great lineman quit a few weeks ago bc he was tired of it only to come back a week later it's not just fans that are disappointed..

Thats not the same as other coaches.

Many coaches win with lesser talent that other teams have, they develop their players and out think them.

Maybe you are oversold on your talent.

The Rock hasn't made any noise in the playoff picture in a long time.

I have a friend who played college football and coaches high school football and I really respect his opinion. He watched Rock play twice this season and both times he walked away saying there is no way Rock shouldn't win more games than they do. I don't know any of the coaches so I say this with no prejudice. If the teams consistently overachieve with the talent they have then you have a good coach. If they consistently underachieve then you need to make a change.

Rebelpride.. I agree 100 percent with your statement. As a head coach you are expected to develop teach an grow your players in doing this you learn each players strengths and weakness once you have learned this you are expected to utilize this to win games. You are not always going to be the biggest or fastest team on the field every time you play however good coaches find a way to balance your team out to allow for the best matchup to give you a chance to win. Outsmarting other coaches an out coaching and utilizing your players to perform at their best abilities will win games for you. Parkey has only had 2 winning seasons in 8 seasons. One 9-3 and then last year 7-5. The junior squad and sophomore squad is a very talented group and we're not used to losing until Parkey started coaching them. When you loose by 30 then you were probably not the best team on the field but when you have nearly all games this year decided by a TD or less then it's poor coaching. Yea maybe you lose one game close but not 5. Coach Parkey has always coached not to lose 2 badly an never played the aggressive coach instead he always plays safe an ends up finding a way to blow it. Like I said before there are a lot more options out there that will give us a better chance to win than coach Parkey.

I gotta be honest most bleacher coaches don't have a clue as to what they are talking about. I am basing this on someone whose opinion I greatly value.

I understand that, but he is also basing it off of TWO games, without seeing any of the other 8 teams on Rockcastle's schedule. Even for a coach, that is a small sample size.

No dog is this fight. But as someone said earlier. I think your over estimating your talent base a little. They have been competitive in most of their games they lost. Which of those games should they have won? On max preps is list Rockcastle with a roster of 33 players. Is that correct? If it is, your not going to win a lot of games with injuries to bigger quality teams. We are 2A and dress 91 players. What's the population of Rockcastle County?

Not looking at scores, but rather looking at what I've seen and what I know about teams, the only game Rockcastle lost that they probably should have won was Somerset. Danville and Pulaski have much better talent. Knox Central, Wayne County, and Garrard County were all competitive games for Rockcastle, but I believe part of the reason they lost is because they aren't as talented.

 

Missing a key player for most of the year obviously hurt them. And I believe they are stacked with juniors (maybe only two seniors?) so they should be much better next season. One thing I noticed is all of their 50/50 games were on the road and they lost each of them. Perhaps the team isn't good enough or experienced enough to go on the road and get those wins? On the flip side, having those games at home next year with a senior dominated team should mean good things for Rockcastle.
