Rating was 5.8 NFL had a nondescript game between the Saints and Falcons. Rating was 10.4 NFL is the big pimp of of professional sports.

While there is a lot of truth in that, it is not as if people don't bet on other sports, and fantasy is not much of a consideration for preseason, pro bowl, or playoffs where the NFL still annihilates the competition. The NFL is the ultimate television product. It is a weekly sitcom that a bulk of America watches. The NFL has been the top product since the 1970s, this is nothing new. Well before PPRs and Draft Kings.
October 16, 201510 yr What the NFL has the separates itself from baseball is the national appeal. Outside of a handful of baseball teams, you root for the regional team and it is only popular in that market. NFL has always had an array of fans across the country. Majority of folks are more apt to tune into a Raiders/Seahawks game vs. an Athletics/Mariners game on a random Sunday afternoon. Outside of the Yankees, Red Sox, and Cubs (maybe to a less degree the Braves because of TBS), we don't have many fans of baseball teams beyond the bluegrass region.

You can bet on baseball or play fantasy baseball, but there are so many games and each game moves relatively slowly so that even if you have action on it it's not enough to make it as compelling as football. Football is already more dramatic and then you can do fantasy or gamble to make otherwise insignificant games almost as interesting as a big game? It's not even close. I had a little riding on the the TNF game but turned it off at halftime, watched the end of UK, and went to bed. I forgot baseball was on.

October 16, 201510 yr For me it's not so much the NFL over baseball as it's football. I didn't watch one play of the NFL game last night or MLB. It was UK football followed by Stanford / UCLA.
