October 16, 201511 yr I wouldn't even watch the NFL if not for fantasy football. I think it's terrible because of the number of flags and ridiculous rules (that even the officials don't understand).
October 16, 201511 yr There are 2500+ regular season baseball games to pick from each season, and between 23 and 43 playoff games each year. Football only has 256 regular season games, and 15 postseason games each year.
October 16, 201511 yr The ratings thing is "over-rated" IMO... It's not an exact science... I mean, we have remote controls... No effort necessary to channel surf, which is what I did and the majority of people I know did... We watched MLB, NFL and College football... Back and forth, stop and watch when an interesting moment is occurring... Down 1 run, runners and second and third, two outs..I'm watching MLB. QB driving his team down the field in a close football game...I'm watching the rest of that drive. I'm not sure how they come up with their stats, but most people watched more than one last night IMO.
October 16, 201511 yr I played baseball, I like baseball okay but it is so boring on TV and it is on all the time. Football is way more exciting and the NFL goes all in on their broadcasts. Even from a pure entertainment standpoint, the NFL game last night was far superior to the UK game. A lot of college football broadcasts are very basic, not much different than 30 years ago. The NFL pushes the envelope every year. And I don't buy it is because of gambling and fantasy. Sure that helps but so many applications instantly update everything for you, you don't need to spend your time actually watching the games. And like Clyde, I don't play fantasy and I don't gamble.
October 16, 201511 yr .... I watched UK / Auburn and the NFL game...didn't see a pitch of the baseball game. In fact, still haven't since the post-season started, with the exception of watching a great deal of Cueto pitching game 5 the other night for the Royals. If it isn't the Reds, or Reds-related, I'm not watching.
October 16, 201511 yr This topic alone is why I always laugh when people speak of the death of football. I watched the NFL game , UK game and the Stanford/UCLA game.
October 16, 201511 yr This topic alone is why I always laugh when people speak of the death of football. Just as funny to me that people think baseball is dying... MLB has never made more money than now... Youth baseball is very popular in this country, including competitive Fall leagues... Tons of baseball training and lesson facilities popping up all over the country... Baseball is alive and well... Tv ratings are only one way to measure a sports' popularity.. One thing I can't figure out is why the NFL Players union is so weak compared to the MLB union... You would think NFL players would be smart enough to get similar guaranteed contracts and retirement plans, etc... But they don't fight for it. You'd think in this day and age of Fantasy football and Madden video games, etc that these football stars would have more guts to take on the owners just as baseball did many years ago...
October 16, 201511 yr I flipped between UK & WKU... then baseball when they were finished. Not one second of NFL for me. I mean, it's not like the Bengals were playing.
October 16, 201511 yr For the record, I watched the 1st half of the UK game, nearly the entire Pro Game, a little bit of the WKU game, and some of the 2nd half of the UK game including the ending. Oh, and I squeezed in a little WWE but I have it on the DVR so no worries.
October 17, 201511 yr I watched UK until NFL and watched it until I fell asleep. I do play small dollars on Fantasy but that is not my reason. I just like NFL best.

All pro sports make more money then ever. It's due to the fact Live sports is the one thing on TV a majority of people don't dvr and watch live. It's the biggest revenue maker for TV networks. The NBA , NCAA Football , College Basketball are all on huge record breaking deals. So the fact there is more money , doesn't translate to being as popular as ever. It's just the reality of today's TV climate . I would venture to say without sports most cable or satellite providers would be dead.
October 17, 201511 yr All true.. But the influx of youth baseball leagues and tons of training academies specific to baseball does translate to it's popularity IMO...
