Mark Stoops says Drew Barker will play vs EKU

Kentucky Football: Mark Stoops says Drew Barker will play vs EKU; Has wanted to play him - A Sea Of Blue

The Kentucky Wildcats will face EKU this Saturday, and head coach Mark Stoops is already making it clear he wants to get his backup quarterback some action.

Though Patrick Towles is the clear-cut starter, Stoops still wants to see what his backup QB is capable of. The opportunity for him to play hasn't presented itself though with Kentucky being in close games in all four of their contests thus far.

I think Stoops had every intention of playing Barker against Louisiana Lafayette, but then they laid an egg in the 2nd half.

I just love that we approaching October and there are several threads dedicated to UK Football. It feels good to be relevant a 1/3 way into the season.

Well good, now we can put some of the discussion to bed. He either is or isn't ready. Let's see

Does this mean he doesn't anticipate a competitive game this week or is he going to play him early no matter what?

Great! Hope Pat lights it up first half and Drew does it the second half.

Hopefully ya'll (you know who you are) will be logical and know that Drew's performance will be against the 2nd/3rd teamers of an FCS school (although a very good FCS school).

My guess is he expects this game to be in control by mid 3rd quarter at the latest and be able to get Barker in the game. I do no think he will see the field if the game is somehow close. I agree with above post that says he probably was going to play some in the opener if they didn't lay an egg in the 2nd half.

When Barker gets in I can already see the comments. If he does good it's because EKU is overmatched by UK and if he does bad then a lot of "I told you so" about him not being better than Towles.

I hope UK just keeps winning no matter who is behind center.

I didn't have to wait for the game to see what I was talking about. I'm not "pro" Drew or "pro" Patrick but Drew is in a no-win situation. Either you are a fan of his or not and you can tailor your argument either way when he gets in.

I'm a UK football fan who thinks Pat is the better option at QB.

I think Pat is the better QB as well but to be fair to Drew no matter how he does (or any back-up QB) it can be twisted to fit ones agenda.

So if UK is up big in the second half, are they going to let Drew throw it around or is just going to hand off to run down the clock?

They will continue the game plan with an extra run or two maybe.

Complete guess on my part, but I'm thinking the staff has a few more designed QB runs in Barkers package.

And it will be twisted. As mentioned he is in a no win situation. I am a big fan of Barker and I look forward to seeing what he can do on the field. Hopefully folks will reign in their bias and be realistic about his performance. His first ever performance on a college field.
