Couldn't disagree more but we are all allowed our own opinions. I might add that the LB core was one of the few bright spots for most of Jokers tenure.

He as at UK from 2005 to 2012.

 

Brought in by Rich Brooks, not Joker.

 

He only had three players that played for UK: Neal Brown, Taylor Begley, Jacob Tamme.

 

He was the LB coach during their run of consecutive Bowl games and wins.

 

So try again on that argument.

Nobody unless they've coached at the NFL level at some point. Huge difference in leading multimillionaires than leading kids who live with mommy and daddy.

 

 

But we wouldn't know unless a coach was given the opportunity honestly. Nobody would succeed from day one but put in the right place and time you could. Also in the pros you have a GM who gets the players for you, you pick your players while in HS you get what you get (well that's how it's supposed to be).

 

I think the same probably could be said to NFL coaches coming down to the HS level that have never coached it before. A good portion of these coaches got where they are because they had a connection somewhere.

1.) He certainly was not hired by Joker Phillips, he was hired by Rich Brooks & spent a lot more years with Brooks than with Phillips.

 

2.) As many or more of his big time HS players went to UofL (3) and other schools (Wake Forrest & TCU of the top of my head) than to UK. The only players he had from his high school days while he was at UK were Jacob Tamme and Taylor Begley (Neal Brown was already gone when Smith arrived at UK). Tamme was good but he was no Tim Couch or Dennis Johnson coming out of high school, not the athlete that was coveted so badly that his coach got a job just to help get him on campus. Chuck got his job at UK because he was 86-4 with 5 state titles and a state runner up as a head coach in the 6 years leading up to his hire at UK.

 

3.) He was the most impactful position coach and recruiter on a staff that in his time there saw the most successful 5 year stretch of any UK staff since Bear Bryant left in the 1950's (you can look that up, it's 100% accurate). His tenure was bookended by 2 bad seasons, and his departure was due to his 2nd head coach being replaced (because that coach was a bad hire from the beginning) and the new guy wanting to bring his own people.

 

4.) Last year's super Bowl featured 3 players directly coached by him in either in college or High School. Fully 1/3 of the former UK players who actually played (not practice squad etc) in the NFL last season can be directly tied to him as thier primary coach from UK or Boyle County.

 

 

I'm not claiming the guy should be an NFL head coach right now, but i know that literally none of your assertions ring true.

I doubt many could manage the players in the NFL, you cant yell at NFL players.

KY high school to NFL head coach? C'mom man! How about No One. One step at a time, only a few can be a head coach in a college level, let alone a head job at an NFL team.

The latter 3 of those 4 are absolute icons in the history of coaching. How many NFL championships are represented by those 4 men?

That comment (or something like it) from last year sounds familiar but keep in mind I have seen a lot of very good LexCath teams. And I stand by that comment, I was not impressed with LexCath last year.

 

And without the starting QB (because that is when I gave that assessment - and Knight agreed with me) LexCath is not very good.

And for this season, are you saying that Braumbaugh didn't get injured.. Your statement as far as the team " Is not very good ", changes?

This thread is clearly asking a hypothetical question, so I'm not sure why some of you are taking this so seriously and getting worked up.

 

I think an interesting choice would be Dale. I would pay to watch a Hard-Knocks season with Dale managing all the different egos of a pro team. Knowing him the way I do, I'm fairly confident that it would make great television, but would likely result in some of the "big time" players having their feelings hurt.

 

As far as game planning, scheming and putting your players in the best position to make plays, I think Dale could do it. I just think his downfall would be thos "hot shot" players who put their personal egos before the team, and Dale not wanting to cater to them.

I said in this thread LexCath finished strong last year.

 

On LexCath this year, when healthy I think they are a threat to win 3A. I think they are well coached and balanced on offense. My only issue is they are soft against the run and when it gets cold out and you have to match up against a team like Belfry it makes for tough sledding.
