A couple of recent ones have spurned some other thoughts...

Running around the yard at dusk catching fireflies, and putting them in an old mason jar with some grass clippings in it.

Riding in the back bed of a pickup truck. (And nobody fell out or got hurt!)

Thirsty? Grab the garden hose. (And surprise, nobody got sick!)

Homemade, hand-cranked ice cream. (We still do this, but not nearly as much as when I was a kid). Number one rule was (even if we had guests)...if you don't crank...you don't eat. Even my 80 year old grandmother would crank it for a minute or two!

My parents have a barn on their property (think more Indiana dairy barn as opposed to Kentucky tobacco barn). It was painted white. I'd take black electrical tape and put up a strike zone on it. Then, would measure back the necessary distance for the pitcher's rubber. Would wear a hole out (first, in the driveway, then later, in the yard) from throwing thousands of pitches using a tennis ball.

Finally, somebody mentioned the phone situation. Remember finally getting up the nerve to call a girl...and having your whole planned conversation thrown into a ringer by having her mom, or worse, her dad, answer the phone. And, if by chance she wasn't able to come to the phone at the time, having to race your mom or your sister to the phone when the girl called back.

Anybody remember Village Inn Pizza?

* At least one bare wall in every neighborhood had a Strikeout Box..... a Square with a S inside that was the same as the K Zone used on TV now.

* If you were really lucky you had a couple of old Black and White TVs and you could turn one on and watch the MLB game of the week and watch Wide World of Sports on the other.

* NO ONE went to bed on Monday night until AFTER Monday night Halftime highlights were shown of all the Sunday games.

* Someone on the playground basketball court would say "Want to play 21?" and everyone knew how to play.

* Beta VCRs were so much better than VHS VCRs .........and then they were gone.

* Every table at the Prom or Homecoming Dance had at least 10 cameras sitting on them.

* Somebody's older brother would agree to be the "Steady QB" for touch football and everybody was happy with that.

I grew up there too ' date=' and she's correct.[/quote']

Figured we were in the same generation. Good stuff.

I remember the first VCR I bought was an RCA. It was made of metal, huge and heavy.

We had a BetaMax before we got a VCR. The remote was attached with a wire. I remember going to the movie store and getting made because all the good movies were only in VHS.

Who remembers Borden Burger Foods, later BBF?
