Sorry to hear this. I think most people who have had a dog for any length of time understand that they are not "just a dog". They do become family and we grieve for them when they leave us.

Had to put my Pooch down about 6 years ago. One of the toughest days of my life. Grew up a little bit that day. I refused to let the Vet take him to dispose of so I took him to our Rivercamp and Buried him myself. That was even tougher! I cried the entire time. My wife & kids met me at the Grave site after he was buried and we all said a prayer for him. Family pets are very hard to say Goodbye too when they have to pass on. Very hard! We swore we would never have to do that again. Wow was I wrong.....We now have a 3 & 6 year old Brittany Spaniels that it looks like we get to repeat the process again someday. I'm sure the emotions will still be the same......

Went through the same thing a few years ago when we had to let our 14 yr old girl go. There was no way I was going to let the vet "dispose" of her body, I wanted to bury her on our property. That was a tough day.

So sorry to hear about your loss. Take solace in the fact you have given your dog a great life with lots of love and received that in return.

We lost our dashund to a broken spinal cord at the age of 4 . Very tough and I encourage you to hang tough. The memories will stay forever .

Hard to do for sure; My mom was about to face this decision a few weeks back with her Pug Harley. My brother had bought this dog while we both still lived at home and when it was time for my brother to move out mom said no way was Harley going. Fortunately for mom Harley passed on his own without her having to make the decision.

 

It's never just a dog or animal; My dog is treated like our child as we don't have kids, pets are most definetely family.

Thanks everyone. My uncle buried Jake on our family farm. He loved it there so it's fitting.

 

I hadn't gotten to see him much recently because the military moved my mom and my step dad away, but seeing him last night was great. He wagged his tail, which my mom said he hasn't done in a long time. Made me feel good to give him some kind of happiness.

 

He's gone now.

Pets definitely become a part of your family. When I was a kid we had to put down our dog Snowshoe and I know I cried for days. Now with my dog Frazier, I've only had him for 2 months but I know dog the road if I ever have to make that decision, I will be a mess.

 

You have my thoughts.

Sorry to hear this. I have a 13 year old Chocolate Lab that is heading down the road and we will at some point soon have to make that decision. I try to spend as much time as I can with him, which includes bringing him in the house to lay on the family room floor with me....Mrs. BB says he smells and needs to go out, I say he smells like my life and let him stay...

Sorry for your loss HB20. A hard decision, I'm sure.

Sorry for your loss HB. Pets are like members of the family. We have a 4 year old Bichon Frise named Prince and he's my little buddy, companion, and comedian. Hopefully we'll have several more years of his nudging me with his wet nose to wake me for his 7am walk.

 

This is my buddy not too long ago, before his health started to decline.

I'm sorry for you're loss. We had to put down our collie a few years back due to a severed spinal cord. It was a horrible experience. Dogs are part of the family. It's obvious from the pic you gave him a very good life. Take solace in that.

HB, I am very sorry for your loss. I love dogs more than I like people, they become part of the family. Jake is one of my favorite names for a dog, due to the "Jake the Salty Dog" story. I encourage you to Google it if you don't know the story.
